Question about 1978 Suzuki GS 750 E

1 Answer

1977 Suzuki GS750 idles high when hot The engine is

The engine is set to idle appropriately when the choke is off. After travel wherein the engine is now hot, the engine idles at about 2000 rpm at all times. Not a big issue except at intersections waiting for the light to change, but it would be nice to run correctly. Additionally, the engine has a slight, not loud, knocking after warm up when idling. Otherwise, runs well off idle. I have been told it is side play in the camshaft. Mileage, approx. 50,000. Valves recently adjusted by Suzuki dealer. Thanks, Willard

Hi, Qfs3 and the usual suspects are:
1. Throttle cables improperly adjusted, pinched or need lubrication.
2. Idle adjusting screw needs to be backed off.
4. Air fuel mixture adjusted too lean start with 2 full turns.
5. Intake system air leak.
6. Fast idle choke ramp is not releasing.
7. Broken throttle return spring.
8. Damaged diaphragm or slide.
9. Faulty MAP, TPS, ATS, O2, sensors or wiring/connector.
10. Multiple carburetors not in sync.

SOURCE: have an 06 Suzuki Katana

Not for sure but u might try to re jet the bike.i own a 98 suzuki bandit 600s and it also is really cold hearted. those bikes are unfortunately known for that problem.not that it was much help but u might try contacting Dales Holeshot Performance he specializes those types of bikes he also sells the jet kits.
i would also try to adjust the idle slightly higher hope this at least helps

SOURCE: stalling out

u have the mixture screw wound in to far. its normally located on the bottom of the carb. try winding it out half a turn at a time once the bike has warmed up. also turn the idle screw out a quarter of a turn at the time its in to far thats why it idles at low revs. the choke is needed to keep the air fuel mixture right thats why u are having to leave it on for so long. hope this helps.

You need to fix the fueling first - without fuel it won't run!
Your other problem sounds like an air leak - either the manifold or the carb. Check by spraying WD-40 or CRC at the manifold and carb join while the bike is running - if the revs change (either up or down) you have a leak.

Can someone help me y it gets hot just idling

Because, when fuel burns it creates heat even at idle. Also there is no airflow to remove the heat generated.

the fast idle is set when the choke is close to set the cam on the HIGH STEP. turn the car off hot, now pull the accelerator back and close the choke with your hand, now let the accelearator back to idle, now the idle is on the high step, carnk the car and set the idle speed, the base the fast idle screw is against the step on the pass side of carb.

AERO 750 STALLS EVEN AFTER WARMUP - IDLE LOW ?

The idle is a great place to start. If you have a normal bike with no engine mods ie exhaust, jet work then you need to screw the idle screw all the way in, then back it out 2 and a half turns.
