I am going to look at a 92 Yamaha 1000 FZR motorcycle and wanted to know if there is a way I can check the odometer and make sure the mileage reading was not tampered with. Is this possible?

Some times the numbers dont line up exactly when they have been tampered, but if someone was keen they could just bolt a different speedo assembly on with lower milage.
You may get a slight indication if the discs are quite worn.
Check the service log books, dont buy it without the books, and if it seems all a little suspect, there are thousands more bikes for sale

I get mileage of 25km per litre and i wanted to improve the mileage.. what should i do?

to improve mileage by not sacrificing too much of its performance, you'll need to have a silent exhaust or better, the stock exhaust, stock jets but better flowing air filter element. Replacing the spark plugs to iridium or platinum types would often have better results since it will surely fire better. Usually, a more silent exhaust would prove more efficient than a louder one.

Hope this helps

Oil shooting in to the air box

Hello,
From your brief description I'm guessing a high mileage machine? or Previous owners have revved too much from cold?
It sounds like the engine is possibly breathing? the pistons and compression rings are worn so exhaust gasses and compression leaks past them and pressurizes the crank case sending oil out the breather, so the air filter draws it in.
If the bike is performing o.k. and you can live with it try a dribble/breather can? pop the vent pipe into a seperate container to catch it. Make sure you seal the hole in the air filter so contaminents can't get in. also the new breather needs air circulation so trial and error on a recepticle.
Good Luck!
