Question about 1997 kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic

1 Answer

I have a 1997 kawasaki classic. It has been sitting not riding it much the last year due to wife injuring her back. I start it and run it every few weeks just to keep things in check. Took it out for a short ride and noticed that the front pipe has turn really bronzed and now the back pipe is starting to turn as well. Any ideas as to what the problem or solution might be? Thanks

The jets in your carburetors are restricted from fuel sitting in bike and turning to varnish. The color change on the pipes is an indication of the bike running excessively lean due to insufficient fuel. You will need to remove, clean and adjust the carburetors.

Hi, Paul and the usual suspects are:
1. Clutch controls improperly adjusted.
2. Insufficient clutch spring tension.
3. Friction discs or steel discs are worn or warped

If you have not done so, I would suggest taking the carbs out and cleaning them thoroughly. Clean all the jets, check and adjust the float level. Check your air/fuel mixture.

Back firing is typically a sign that you are running too lean.

Check your kickstand safety switch- it sounds as though water from the pavement may be entering it....although I am not sure if the switch is normally open or closed with kickstand up- I don't have a manual for our Vulcan yet!

Bike runs good but after about 45 min of riding it

hello there:
try turning you're spit **** to reserve and see if still does the same thing if so you're more than likely looking at needing to replace the vale adjusting pads this will cause the problem of not running right i had same problem with a 1998 Kawasaki after the adjusting pads were flat-end out... so this should solve the problem best of luck to you sincerely D Jones

Bike backfires,dies,restarts runs fine

your carbs are dirty. and probably need to be balanced also... bring the bike bto a garage and have them cleaned by a profesional.... also after market pipes don't give your bike the proper back pressure .. that can mess up your carbs timing

When you let it sit did you remove all the fuel or add a additive? If you did not then I would recommend that you remove all the fuel and add brand new fuel to your system. Gasoline only last for about 3 to 4 months before it will start to go bad and this sounds like your problem

Kawasaki vulcan 800 classic will not start now

Sometimes after trying to start a bike with a weak battery the starter solenoid gets damaged,or loose connections develop on the solenoid due to heat.It should be next to the battery.
