With the generator and the regulator on the bike, MOMENTARILY flash the armature connection of the generator with the positive terminal of the battery.

With the generator off the bike, flash the field terminal with the negative side of the battery.

Flash a generator

To flash a generator, I assume it has set for a long long time, or else it isn't needed unless you installed a new non magnetized rotor. To do it, disconnect the wires note their position and polarity that conenct to the brushes. Connect a battery with an in line fuse momentaraily for about 2-3 seconds (make sure the polarity is correct IE B+ on the right ring) This will build a correct polarized field for the rotor that will build when induced in the stator

Honda eu10i reverses polarity on boat

Polarity lights in AC means that it thinks the wrong input lead is earthed ie neutral.

If polarity detector is showing that there is no neutral earth bond it may not be a bug but a feature, as standard the EU10i would not have an earth neutral bond.

Otherwise I can not see why your detector thinks there is a polarity reversal.

How can I fix smoke problem on polar express

Most Lionel engines have a small slider switch which can turn off the smoke generator. Check to see that the switch is in the ON position. Check the engine manual (available from Lionel's website) for the location of the switch.

Also, if the smoke generator is always on and no fluid had been used in the generator, it will eventually burn out. Replacement smoke generators are available from Lionel.

Generator has no electrical out put

Usually if a generator sits for awhile, it will lose its polarity. A quick check for this is to plug in a drill, start the generator and turn the the voltage on has if to use it, then turn the drill chuck has quickly has possible. This action re-polarizes the generator unit. I would also make sure the circuit breakers are seated down.

79 sportster charging system voltreg and generater keep going out with new battery

This is unusual since the generator is usually pretty tough. I've got one question. Are you properly "polarizing" the generator? To "polarize" the generator, you need a piece of wire that will reach from the battery to the generator.

"With the generator on motorcycle and connected to regulator, connect one end of a jumper wire to the generator armature terminal. Momentarily touch the other end of the jumper wire to the positive terminal of the battery. This restores the magnetism, Remove the jumper."

This is directly out of an H-D service manual. The 'polarizing" procedure should be done anytime any part of the charging system is removed from the bike. Since a generator produces a DC current, this insures that the current is of the correct polarity.

Also, make sure that the voltage regulator that is bolted to the frame is well grounded. It depends on this ground to regulate the voltage. We usually put one of the "star" type lock washers between the regulator and the frame on each of the mounting bolts. The teeth on the washer dig into the frame and the body of the regulator providing a good ground. And, make sure that you've got the wires properly connected. The green wire goes to the "Field" terminal and the two tan wires go to the 'Armature" terminal. If you need a complete schematic, contact me directly at wd4ity@bellsouth.net

Good Luck

I need to know how to polarize a generator for a 1969 HD sportser

To polarize the generator you must make sure you have a fully charged battery first. Then make sure the regulator is correctly connected to the generator. Then take a heavy gauge wire and momentarily connect it between the positive side of the battery and the “A” post of the generator. The “A” is the post is the left/front post if you are looking at the installed generator from the left side of the bike.
