Your bike is equipped with a standard 12 volt battery. If you count three acid cells/caps on a battery you have a 6 volt. If you can count 6 acid cells/caps on the battery you have a 12 volt.

2006 Honda Nighthawk 250 hooked up my battery charger backward

Hi, Roger if your battery out of your bike when it is completely dead and you hook up the battery charger backward your battery will charge fully except the poles will be backward, the Positive pole is now the Negative pole and the Negative pole is now the Positive pole. If you install the battery not knowing the poles have been reversed you will blow the main circuit fuse or circuit breaker on the bike.
If you tried charging the battery while it was still hooked up to the bike it will do the same thing to the fuse or circuit breaker in the battery charger. Most battery chargers have some type of warning light or buzzer alerting you to the fact that the cables are hooked up backward.
If your battery is fully charged backward take it out of the bike hook it to a headlight and let it drain until the voltage reads zero, this may take a couple of days, then recharge it slowly with a trickle charger or a regular battery charger at 1 or 2 amps for 24 hours and you will be good to go.

I have a 1985 honda vt 500 c ....r&r'd plugs, air, oil &filter and it ran great all summer. Then it gradually started running poorly.Got harder to start and backfiring when trying to start it

dave there are a couple videos on checking the coil for spark i would take out a plug and put it in the socket lay it on the motor so end touches metal pull of other cyl wire so it don't start roll it over you will see a blue spark make sure your battery is charged fully if it works fine with fully charged battery it could be the battery not recovering fast enough these bikes do not work properly and act weird with a poor battery have the battery load tested if you are unsure and stator tests ok

Killing the battery when running

you need to replace the reg/rect . regulator not working properly, it's allowing to much current flowing through wire causing it to heat up and melt.

Can I use a normal 12v car battery charger from Halfords to charge my Honda 750 Shadow it has a Yuasa 12 battery

Absolutely, but I recommend that you charge with the minimum amount of charging amps that the charger will produce...(trickle charge), a slow, full charge will stay with a battery better than zaping it! Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

How to start motorcycle? It's been sitting idle for the winter, and I believe the battery is dead, can I hook it up to a charger? And where is it located on the bike?

Battery location depends on the bike but usually they are under the seat area.

They battery can be charged, but select a decent charger for bike batteries. If the battery is dry (out of water/acid) the battery will most likely be NS. You can pry off the plates on the battery and top up with distilled water and try charging but I would just get a new one and charger at the same time. You can get trickle chargers, that you leave connected to the batt when not riding the bike and it flicks on then off to keep the battery topped up. I had my car on one for a year and it was fine.

Batteries dead

You bike is equipped with a 12 volt battery. The best way to charge these is to use an automatic charger that will shut off when battery is fully charged. I usually charge mine on the 2 amp setting (trickle).
Depending on the charger, you may need to pick up some smaller clamps as most chargers' clamps are too big to clamp on motorcycle battery posts.
Hope this helps
