Question about 1978 Suzuki GT 380

1 Answer

I have a T reg suzuki gt 380. The problem that I have is that the left hand cyl(gearshift side) is mis-firing. Occasionally it will run O.K but most of the time it misses, causing a very loud back fire with a small flame even coming out of the exhaust. I have cleaned the carb, checked the points , swopped the condensor over with one of the other two, with no inprovement. Also although the battery is new it will nearly go flat in about 40 mins if the ignision is left on , is this a sign of the problem?? In the Haynes manual it tells you how to do the ignition timing manually, but I'm confused as to which casting I should be lining the alignment plate line with, as there seems to be two casting, one which goes right to the bottom of the housing, and one which can only be seen thru the aperture. From these descriptions where do you think I should be looking to rectify the misfire, many thanks.

I would change spark pluge first.............Fire it up in the dark and make sure the bike is not jumping spark from one of the coil or spark plug wires...........Hope this helps

Hi, I have a 1982 gsx 1100 Suzuki sitting on the bike from left to right what is the firing order if left coil is 1-3 & right coil is 2-4? thanks

Hi, Nigel "Fast Cat" says all the inline fours are the same in this (that I know of, maybe BMW does it differently, but every Japanese inline-four I ever saw was the same) sitting on the bike, from left to right, the cylinders are 1-4... there are two coils, and the one coil fires cyls 1 and 4 and the other fires cyls 2 and 3. you can swap 1 and 4 or 2 and 3, it makes no difference at all, but you can't put the 2-3 coil on cyls 1 or 4 and vice versa... you should be able to just take the long spark plug wires and put them on cyls 1 and 4 and the shortys go to cyls 2 and 3. Firing order is 1-4-2-3 For more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the links below. Good luck and have nice a day. Suzuki 380 gt not running after choke turned off

The engine was running with the choke pulled and when closed there is no fuel supply to the engine probably due to a faulty setting. It is possible that there is a fuel block and so the carb needs a clean up and reset.
remove the filter and check the fuel jets.

Need to know cyl # location left bank 1 3 5 right 2 4 6 for a 1991 2.8 S10 engine

looking at the engine from the front on your right hand side in order closest to you is cylinder #1, 3 and 5 at the rear closest to the fire wall.
Looking at the left hand side is cylinder #2, 4 and 6 closest to the fire wall.

The firing order is 165432

How do I set timing on 1976 suzuki gt 380

Send me your e mail address to I wrote an essay on how to solve your problem and ran into trouble getting this site to accept it. I'll tell you all you need to know. For goodness sake don't give the engine the slightest bit of throttle abuse until you have set the timing correctly. If you do, you run the risk of holing a piston.

Problem with fireing order on suzuki 1.3 w/coils pack

cannot be specific, had a 98 (now a 99). remember they fire twice- compression and exhaust. if you don't get and answer soon, look up firing order and everyother one should fire together, limiting combinations to two. It doesn't care what stroke it is on
