If there are no leaks and you can't bleed the system then it sounds like the seals in the master cyl are shot, try bleeding the brake system first if you haven't already done so. good luck Dave

2001 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Electra Glide Ultra Classic Back brake failure

Hi Anonymous, this problem is usually cause by the front brake light switch being out of alignment or the button not retracting all the way keeping your brake light on in a closed circuit, depending on your model year. 1996 and earlier models the right handlebar switch housing had to be tight up against the front brake control housing in order for the front brake light switch button to be fully compressed to stop continuity. In 1997 and later models the button was alot shorter and was more of an alignment issue in the switch housing. Rear brake light switches located in the rear brake line TEE can also fail in the closed circuit condition but extremely rare, usually they fail in an open circuit condition where the brake light is not able to activate. 2001 hd dyna wide glide brake light does not come on when brakes are applied , tail light works, bulb is ok , is it the brake sensor ,where is it located and what does it look like thanx

Your Wide Glide has two brake light switches. One is in the right handlebar switch housing and operated by a tang on the front brake lever. If it's not working you probably have a bad switch up there as well. The rear brake switch is underneath the bike. Find the metal line coming out of the rear brake master cylinder. Follow this line back towards the rear brake. You should find a "tee" fitting with a small switch screwed into it. It'll have two wire plugs with about four wires on it unless they've changed something. You'll know it when you see it. Replace this switch first. Since the front brake light works off this switch as well, it may fix the front brake light switch as well. If not, you'll have to take the right handlebar switch housing apart to get to the front switch.

Good Luck

2006 Harley Davidson street glide brake light stays on

Try loosening the bolts holding the front master cylinder on the handlebars. Slide the master cylinder down as close as possible to the right handlebar switch housing. If this doesn't work, the front brake light switch is probably bad and needs to be replaced in the right switch housing.

Good luck

Brake light not working on 2007 ultra classic foot pedal only

Sounds like you've got a bad front brake light switch. This little switch is inside the right handlebar switch housing. You can replace the switch by removing the throttle cables and taking the housing apart. Unless Harley has changed something, the switch is not difficult to change but the old wires have to be resoldered onto the new switch.

Good luck

2001 fxst harley brake light stays on all the time

Loosen the two bolts that holds the front brake master cylinder on to the handlebars and slide the front brake master cylinder down as close to the right handlebar switch housing as possible. If this does not solve the problem, I'd guess that the front brake light switch was bad and needs replacing. It's inside the right handlebar swich housing.

Good Luck

I took off my front signals & past the rest of the wiring through the handlebars & made sure to solder them back together right! now my rear brake light is always on & I don't know...

The front brake light switch is located on the inner face of the right handlebar switch housing. If you have too much of a gap between the switch housing and the front brake master cylinder, the brake light will stay on continously. Move the front brake master cylinder outward on the handlebars snuggly against the right handlebar switch housing. If this doesn't not solve the problem, your wiring or the switch has a problem.

Good Luck

The brake light on my 2001 softail is always on. I am looking for a wiring diagram

you don't need a wiring diagram to fix this, what you do need is to know what to look for. you have two swtichs for your brake light front brake lever and rear. i would start at the front because it is just a push switch. start be unpluging the gang plug for the rh handlebar switch housing has your brake light gone off?? if so you front brake switch isn;t working if not then check you rear switch unplug it from the harness. light off? if so your rear swtich is bad. check into and let me know
