Question about 2000 Yamaha WR 400 F

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Yamaha WR400F with a Keihin carb. It sat for a long time now it is hard to start and won't idle without the choke. I pulled off the carb, removed the jets and blew them out although everything was very clean, no varnish or sediment in the bowl. Any ideas?

Did you line up the stator plate line with the notch on the cases? Sounds like your ignition timing is set a bit retarded. I would pull the side cover off and check the timing marks.

I have a yamaha silverado 650. It is running very rich... and I need to pull out the choke and warm it up each time I start it (even if I stop for coffee). It also sounds different - how I can not...

I suggest that you are not running rich. IF you were, you would need much less choke than normal. It sounds like you may have restricted jets in the carb(s). I would open them up and clean with air and carb cleaner spray....Multi carbs will need to be re balanced, BOTH at idle and 2000 RPM.

Yamaha TW 200 starts but won't run.

If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..

wind the screw in till it just stops [not hard]
then wind out about 1 & 3/4 turns that should be a close air fuel mix then adjust idle & mix till you get it right
Cheers Rob
