Question about 1981 Yamaha XJ 650
It sounds like the internal rubber parts in the fuel petcock are worn out and need to be replaced. The two critical parts are a four hole washer and in many cases a vacuum diaphragm on the back of the petcock. All the parts are available through a Yamaha dealer except the vacuum diaphragm which is only available OEM in the assembly. You can purchase an aftermarket kit from K&L that has all the gaskets and diaphragms for around $35.
