Take off the bottom of the carburator four screws check floats and clean bowl sounds like bad fuel too or floats are getting stuck

1980 jeep shuts off at a complete stop

no jeep stated,
which engine, and is the carb setup still stock?
and never started again, or started after parked 5 hours and runs perfect other wise. (my other shoe dropped) hark ?

why, , it stalled.?
why did it stall , then engine is misfiring or the ISC system is dead.

guess 2 (most guessing is useless) the EGR stuck open.

1: easy
2: tad hard but can.
3: had to wot the sucker to keep if from stalling, WOT = wide open throttle.

there are many tests, to solve this, got tools? meters?
we cant guess any of the above. eva.

it can be bad fuel in take, or carb fueling wrong.
it can be carb messed up
it can be bad spark
or even a bad engine, and i never fail to test engines first for compression , for sure a 1980 as i dont like spending cash tuning a dead engine. (parts and labor worth more that car.... economics)

carbs are tricky,
is the chock stuck on all the time?
is the float lever holding and at spec, if not fix that now.
are the jets clean, and all nozzels and emmusion tubes in carb clean.?
got vacuum leaks?
these carbs have dash pot devices that prevent stalls when you cut the throttle in DRIVE (is it a/t or m/t box) vacuum operated it is.
is M/t box does it stall if you push in clutch or pop it to neutral?

How dose a stall converter work in a ford with a c6 transmishion

The stall in a converter is when the internal parts of the converter lock and has the same rpm,s as the engine. Transferred to the transmission input shaft. Factory is 1000 to 1500 rpm stall. Put another way. You have a 1500 stall converter, when you floor the gas pedal and the rpm,s go to 1500 real fast, the rear tires will spin faster than the vehicle is going. Don't put a larger stall in a vehicle that isn't built to take the torque. Ie.. Upgraded engine, transmission and rear differential. Some thing will break.

1990 Acura starts & runs fine but has been stalling out when accelerating after stopping at an intersection.

1) Turn on all electric systems- AC/wipers/radio/lights etc

2) if car stalls randomly at low RPM - Replace the Alternator
These cars are very sensitive to fluctuations in voltage and it will stall.

2000 chevy 2500 when i turn on lights engine wants to stall when backup lights are engaged it does stallrear tail lights are dim

check battery connections, check for loose belts
then alternator is not keeping up with the load
take to parts store for a check. should be 14.7 v

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

When parking/Headlights are on it shorts RPM gauge.

who ever done your work, don,t a very bad job,he has got some wires crossed and sounds like they my be pinched also,they will havt to be looked at and replaced

High Tick over when hot cold is 1500rpm but after its been riden and warm it rases to 4000rpm chock is off lol

take the throttle cable off the arm at the carb end and try pulling the cable and check 4 stiffness maybe a frayd cable other wise all air screws may not be in sync with each other if tht doesnt work get back 2 me on tht 1

Stalling issue

check for vacuum hose leak, listen for hissing sound a can a carb spray may assist you in finding this by spraying the hoses and watch for change in idle, this may not show a code if it not a constant problem. under load its ok when it tries to idle the vacuum leak will stall the motor..
