This is usually because of a few things,,,check,,,, and maybe change your plug,,,check gap,,,,adjust your carb,... it sounds like it is way to rich,,,,,lean it out a little,,,,,,and the worse problem,,,,,your rings on the piston may be getting worn,,,,and allowing oil to seep by,,,thus,,going into your airbox,,,,,,and combustion chamber,,,,, then blue smoke,,,,, take a compression check if all else fails,,,,,,, this will tell you if your rings are bad,,,,,, JOEL

How much oil does a ktm 450 exc hold

Thank you for contacting FixYa with your inquiry.
The suggested amount is 1.2 L.

You can download the owners/service manual from this site. http://www.ktm.com/450-EXC.72.0.html?&detailview=4&cHash=dcbf8829e1
Just a note:
I have the same bike and 1.2l of oil will NOT register in the sight glass. I can't even see it in the bottom of the glass. SO IGNORE THE GLASS IF THIS HAPPENS AND DO NOT KEEP ADDING OIL TILL YOU SEE IT IN THE SIGHTGLASS. Add 1.2 liter if you are changing the filters, and add 1L if you are keeping the old filters in there.
Let us know if we can be of further service.
Kind regards,
TF

2005 450 exc cuts out when you nail the throttle

With the information you gave me, sounds like it's too rich on your main jet. Also, tweek the air screw to see if this helps the transition.

2009 KTM 250 exc-f excessive oil use, no apparent oil leaks or blue smoke

It is normal for these bikes to use some oil. A typical, maintained 250 4 stroke will use a pint of oil or more in one day of riding - depending on a lot of variables, of course. Oil consumption on these four strokes is quite typical.

Smoke

If it's liquid cooled then that grey smoke is more than likely steam ( the head gasket is on it's way out). If it was burning oil you would able to smell it.,,
