Piaggio X9 will not start after being in the rain

Hi, Bob moisture, condensation, rain, or bike washing can make the bike run sluggish, not able to rev, and misfire. Older bikes, engine configuration, and exposed electrical components are at the front of the line for acting up. During the diagnostic procedure spray Electrical Contact Cleaner on corroded wire connectors/pins/sockets etc. and apply a liberal amount of "DIELECTRIC" grease to the mating harness/wire connectors. WD40 works great for eliminating suspect areas in your quest to find the real offending gremlin.
For additional insurance you can spray a High Temp Clear Coat on the most vulnerable areas it will work like Scotch Guard does on fabric. Fabricate a rubber or plastic splash guard to deflect water coming off the front wheel getting to the front cylinder spark plugs. The design should be adequate for its purpose with the least amount of airflow restriction to cool the cylinders. The usual suspects are:
1. Air filter soaked with water.
2. Water in the fuel system gas tank and carburetors.
3. Wet ignition coil packs.
4. Spark plug boots wore out or loose allowing water to enter.
5. Spark plug cables old and cracked check for spark leakage in the dark.
6. Spark plug wells filled up and drain holes clogged.
7. Water in a wire harness that has exposed open ends and have a sharp bend or crimp allowing the liquid to form its own pool of potential threats to chaffed wiring.
8. Sensitive fuel tuners and downloaded ECM remaps may get confused with the abnormal cylinder temperature difference in a V-4 engine configuration.

My wife and I were headed on vacation and got caught in a rain storm for a good part of the day. The next day was better, but we got caught in rain again. We thought luck was on our side when we finally...

Hi, Paul some bikes can handle moisture better than others depending on age and 99% of the ones that don't start after getting wet just need a little time to dry out then they are good to go. WD40 works wonders when sprayed in critical electronic areas, ie. coils, spark plugs, safety switches etc.

HONDA GL1500 wont start when it rains

Easy! moister is getting into your electrical system. Sounds like its starting at your switches and probably just need to pull the switches apart, clean the contact points and apply a little grease. Your best bet is to not let the bike get soaking wet, cover it and and only wash it by wetting a towel and not spraying it with a hose.

Bike not starting

Use a 12v test light to track the voltage along the way. Start at the battery, move to the fuses, check both sides of the fuse. here's a wiring diagram. Hope this helps.

The 85 chrysler got wet from heavy rain now it won't start the battery has been charged and jumped the lights work but dash indacators don't work and the starter doesn't make a sound nothing lights up...

I'm sure the car has seen heavy rain before without causing any problems. Did rain get inside the car or the car driven through high water? Check the fuse panel for evidence of water contamination. Look for burned fuses or corrosion. If you can't find any fuses or relays that got wet, then I would look to the ignition switch.

My dash lights are on and the truck won't turn over.

you have water leaking into the fuse box causing a short cicuit , inspect the fuse box's, inside car and in engine compartment and see which one is getting wet , will look rusty, maybe still have some water left in it etc , then find the leak
