Sounds like worn needle and seats and bike is flooding, bike should have a vaccuum operated fuel tap which turns off fuel when stopped but tap may have failed and this can also cause flooding

2005 Yamaha Bruin 350 ATV. What will cause my ATV not to run? Gas is coming from drain tube?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from motorcycles to ATV model category.

Turning over has nothing to do with the carburetor! Your battery is flat. It will need charging.

If the carb is leaking, it is because the float is set wrong or the float valve needle isn't seating properly.

Engines only need three things to run.

A supply of clean fresh fuel (not sitting a year)
A Spark at the right time.
Compression.

You say you cleaned the carb **in** carb cleaner, as opposed to *with* carb cleaner. Did you strip it down, check the float for holes, clean the jets and needles?

1987 subaru carburator problems

You need to hone the accelerator pump well and adjust the throw of the pump rod as much as possible to get more fuel. Of course that is just a guess based on 100's of rebuilds i have done over the years. I have also found that Japanese carbs seldom turn out when rebuilt.

My zr-7 has fuel leaking past the carbs into the pistion chambers and then down into the crank case. I don't know if I just need to re-jet the carbs or what. This is the second time its happened. There...

This is a leaking needle valve. One of the carb.s floats is hanging and the needle valve is sticking open. All it takes is the one to cause the condition you describe. Be sure to turn off the fuel valve on the tank when you park it. But it would be a good Idea to pull the carb's and check each one for the float and needle valve.

When i start the bike cold or hot i have black smoke from the exhaust pipes..choke on or off and cant get bike to idle..i turn off the petcock and after a few seconds the idle starts to come back to...

Black smoke indicates that your mixture is way too rich. Now, you didn't say what carb you're running, stock or aftermarket. But, what it sounds like to me is the needle and seat in the carb is leaking fuel and overfilling the float bowl. When you're running down the road, you'll using enough fuel so that the float bowl does not overfill. When idling, you don't use as much fuel, the bowl overfills, and fuel flows into the carb creating a very rich mixture. Is you overflow hose that connects to the bottom of the float bowl connected, clear and open? If so, turn the petcock on without the engine running. If the overflow is clear and the needle valve is leaking, you should see fuel start to flow out of the overflow hose. This is very important that it do this. If the overflow hose is blocked and you forget to turn your petcock off, you could wind up with a couple of gallons of fuel in your engine. It will leak out of the float bowl, into the carb past the intake valves, past the rings and into the engine. I've also seen it get into the primary drive case as well. I'd put a new needle in the carb and check the float setting according to the book. it's sets with the carb on an angle if the carb is the original Keihin CV.

Good Luck

12hp brigg & stratton engine gas mixing with oil in engine block..when start engine runs high rpm can not idle & look like gas come out carb air cleaner overflows & flood out & stop engine...

Sounds to me like the float needle valve in the carb is leaking. This will cause fuel to over flow out of carb, and will even get into the engine oil. Check to be sure that float is not got gas in it the can go bad. Also check float adjustment. Check needle and seat very carefully for dirt or wear. Just the slightest bit of dirt or wear can cause it to leak. Hope this helps.

I would ck for fuel pressure at carb, if it has pressure then i would suspect the needle and seat are leaking causing to flood with fuel when trying to start up., if the carb is the issue then repl needle and seat in carb.

My Poulan Pro 260 chainsaw will start and run when the choke is pulled out, but as soon as I disengage the choke, the saw dies. Do I need to have the carbuerator checked?

It is running in a lean condition. Continued operation like that can cause piston and cylinder failure.
I'd take it in for repair estimate ($10) at the local chainsaw seller/mechanic. Explain the problem you are having, Probably a leaking fuel line. I'd expect a repair and tune up about $40-60. Your saw will perform better and your arm will thank you. If tuned ask what fuel/oil ratio they used (should be 50:1) and affix a label to your fuel tank. HTH
