Not everyday but occasionally the car will not start, however, if you wiggle the gear shift and take the key out and replace it ....it starts....what is causing this ...had the starter checked and its perfect no issues.

The keyswitch is linked to the neutral safety switch. The neutral safety switch is the part that makes the starter work only in Park and Neutral.

Think of the Neutral switch being at the bottom of the steering column; and the Ignition switch is at the top. Any play between these two points will not move the Neutral switch far enough to engage. The Gearshift on the floor is tied into the system just as if it were a column shifter.

I would suggest a trip to Autozone or Oreilly for a Neutral switch. The parts people can show you diagrams and locations for it. The Electric parts for this are Plug and Play, just a plug to take off and reinstall on the new part. Since it worked when you shook the Gearshift, chances are the looseness is where the Neutral switch meets the shift mechanism.

great post, Key does nothing" clear
and is called NO CRANK, if it cant crank it cant start (m/t push starting might)
any time its a no crank,
check ALL FUSES.
1: if A/t wiggle gear shift (P then try Neutral) N might work.
2: if M/T , wiggle clutch , near floor pressed.

if CEL lamp is dead, key on, the fuses are blown.
the CEL must glow key on, or Fuses blown.

99 gmc jimmy wont start battery is good, turn key nothing happens, also it wont shift out of park. is there a fuse that connects brake inlock and starter soloide/

it sounds like a neutral safety switch try wiggling on the steering wheel or the gear shifter while trying to start it

Sounds like you have a faulty Steering lock. Try wiggling the steering whell while turning the key, also make sure gear shift is park.
