Yes the silverado's have timing chains, just about all v6's and v8's have timing chains, and timing chains should not be serviced, unless you are having problems with a timing chain guide or timing chain tensioner

You dont change a timeing chain till its making a rattling noise
rubber cam belts you change at about 50,000miles
to find out what you have look under the hood,,,you will see a cover over the cam belt

2000 WJ 4.7 V8 Leaking or bad Timing Cover. How to tell? What would you see - a leak or? Thanks

Clean the cover and around it and then monitor it with frequent checks. You should get an idea of where the oil is leaking from or at least if it is from the cover.
Oil circulates inside the timing chain cover. A V8 will likely have three chains or belts, maybe more. I am pretty sure that engine employs chains which require lubrication and as such could be leaking oil from around the timing chain cover seal.

Display for gear display, odometer, trip odometer not lighted. Fuses check ok but replaced just to make sure. All other dashboard items ok. How do I get display back on 2000 Silverado?

The display is on all the time. You can only dim it with the headlight switch. If the display is blank, you will need a new Instrument Cluster. Some sites on ebay will repair yours cheaper than a new one, and keep your milage the same.

When does the timing chain need replacing?

i always recommend it at 150,000 for belts and 230,000 or so for chain. not a big concern for a non interfearance engine, but worth its weight in gold if it saves you a head job.

2000 grand cherokee gas milage

Wide tires make less gas millage, get narrow wheels, let the car accomplish speed slowly from 0 to 30, look at air filter,if shortly replaced, oxygen censor, 15 miles is normal 16 miles per gallon is good for a V8
