Question about 2005 Honda VTX 1300 R

1 Answer

05 1300S Only 1k miles....Just got it so am unfamiliar pretty much with this bike, so need some help. Bike running fine about 5 miles or so, then seemed to lose spark altogether in the front cylinder. Verified when I got home. Front exhaust pipe barely warm. Rear...well, I didn't dare touch that one! Pulled seat, tank, air box (Figured I'd go ahead and install Glens A/F thingamabob while I had it apart) Plugs appeared slightly sooty (I think front left and rear right.) Seems I read that it was normal. Tightened battery cables which weren't really loose. made sure all green wires in the bundle were together. Mike

I just purchased a 94 Katana 750cc -- sort of a project bike. The bike has just under 13K miles and the previous owner stated that he had only put about 500 miles on it, in the last 2 years. When I first...

Sounds like it sat allot.. That causes problems with the carbs.. I would say it runs pretty good for sitting so much.. I would suspect the carbs need cleaning.. or maybe rebuilt,, jetted and synced.. Try some carb cleaner and work you way up from there..

Rate well ;o)

How to find out the fair market price of a 1986 Yamaha Maxim 700X

All you can really do is look around at what comparable bikes are selling for in your area. Look on Craigslist for a nearby city, check your local cycle trader (, stop by some dealers. The wide variety of condition and relatively small market for motorcycles makes it difficult to give a concrete value. Some bikes get driven 10k+ miles a year, others less than 1k. But a well cared for bike driven often is likely to be in better shape than one that sat in the garage untouched for ten years.

My 125cc single cylinder (pulse adrenaline) cuts out at junctions

Since the bike is new, chances are strong that fuel IS the problem.
Also chances are that the carb is perfectly fine. Since the bike is new I'll bet yoy have washed it several times already. The dealer may have washed it also. Fuel is the problem because bikes do not run well on water.

Drain the carb. Remove the water trap bowl on the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Look at the gas in the bowl. Any water in the bottom of the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the petcock. any water in the cup? I am very hopefull this will fix the problem. With a new bike and a clean carb and fuel system not much else should be wrong.

Gsxr power problem

It lugs around and for me at about 6k it felt like a powerband and my bike kicked me and took off like a bat out of hell (I love that analogy). Anyways it was my plugs. How many miles are on the bike? My bike only has 5k miles and the plugs were pretty fouled. Runs like a top now. It stated being sluggish down low, a week later it was worse and would almost stall on me. I changed the plugs the day it stalled on me and no more problems. Best $18 I ever spent on a bike, sadly it was to just get it to run right. Best of luck!

Surge at low rpm

Is it brand new? If so it's pretty normal. The bikes don't like running smoothly below 2k at all. As it breaks in it will get a bit better but it's difficult to not jerk it around at low RPM and slow speeds. Best bet is to keep the RPM at 2200+. Also if it is new when you get to the 1k TPS reset it should help as well.,,,
