ZXR750 L1 horrible sound of grinding from gearbox or clutch area when bike is on sidestand or revved hard any ideas?


Had a similer problem with my L1 recently and narrowed it down to the cluctch not getting enough oil through so changed cylinder put an ebc clutch in and serviced entire clutch system and thankfully seems of done the trick now no gearbox or clutch noise and goes throug the gears superbly with no slipping or noise even when going for it

Just put in a new clutch ( throw out bearings clutch plate the works) and the truck makes a grinding noise when the clutch pedal is pushed, and the clutch will not engage. what could be the problem?


remove the box and turn the clutch plate around as the centre hub is hitting on the flywheel bolts.. To test jack up the car and put the box in a gear . depress the clutch pedal and if you cannot turn the wheel that is because the clutch plate is being stopped by the flywheel bolts.

First of all I think I should say that clutches do not make grinding noises - but transmission gears do.
However, a clutch that is not disengaging properly can make the gears grind when trying to shift from one gear to the next. Also a common source of noise is the clutch throwout bearing. This will make a "grinding" or "growling" noise any time the clutch pedal is depressed. In either of these cases, the only solution is to replace the clutch, throwout bearing, pressure plate and pilot bushing. These all usually come in a clutch kit. If you have an hydraulic clutch with an internal slave cylinder it is recommended to replace the slave cylinder as well and also the flywheel on on vehicles. I'm sorry I cannot be more specific because you did not mention what type of vehicle we are talking about here.

WHen under load the motor revs up and it seems that the Clutch is slipping, it has 100000miles and I suspecting the clutch or the high / low range might be messed up, its a 4 plus 3 manuel transmission.


If it feels like the clutch is slipping, chances are it is. If there was a problem in any component that has internal gears, you would have grinding noises. Gears cannot slip. As the clutch wears more you may hear grinding when you try to change gears but that is because the clutch won't fully disengage so the gears are spinning too fast to shift properly. Before that happens, have the clutch replaced.

1998 ford escort 4cyl..5sp clutch slips in all gears ...RPMS shoot up 3500-4000+...car goes nowhere....shifter doesnt hang up or kick out of any gear/ no grinding noise...goes in & out 1 thru 5...


It seems like your clutch plates are not closing properly. This could be a problem with the linkage, or the plates might be worn out. If you are not trained or experienced in doing your own transmission work, I would recommend taking the car to a transmission mechanic to have it serviced. The clutch plates might be stuck in the neutral position (to test this, put it in gear with no parking break on and try to push the car while it is off. If the car moves while in gear but turned off, then your clutch plates are not connecting, and you will need to have it repaired. If the clutch is connecting, the car will not move when in gear with the engine off, and it is more likely an issue with the linkages (but this seems unlikely from your description).
I recommend you take the car to a mechanic either way, to make sure that (even if you get the problem to stop for a short while) you will not get stuck on the side of the road somewhere. I know transmission work is expensive, but it is worth the money to be sure you are going to make it all the way to your destination every time.

I have a Mazda b4000 4x4, when i put in gear , and let off the clutch, the trans makes a grinding noise, but it will not go... thanks...


Sounds like the clutch plate has suffered catastrophic failure - if there is an inspection point on the gear box see if there's any debris (springs, clutch plate material, etc) at the bottom of the bellhousing. A new clutch assembly should solve the problem.

NOISE WHEN LETTING OUT CLUTCH WHILE IN GEAR


Clutch plate springs brocken.Thats where your noise is comming from.The only solution is to change the clutch.Hope that was helpfull.

Getting harder and harder to place into gear. Also, when the clutch is disengaged (pedal down), I will hear a louder noise, sounds like something is rubbing on something


It seems like the clutch pressure plate has gone, not releasing the clutch plate once the pedal is operated.
The noise you hear, is it a screeching one or is it like the gears rubbing eachother.
If its a screeching noise thn its the release bearing and if its a heavier grinding noise thn its the gears.
Guess you will have to replace the clutch pressure plate, its highly recomended though to replace the pro-kit,i.e the clutch plate, pressure plate and the release bearing.
