There could actually be a couple of different solutions to your problem. The first thing i would check is the battery. If your battery is starting to go bad, the bike will idle high to try to charge it. The other issue could be Throttle Potentiometer: A potentiometer is similar to a rheostat. Think 'twist to make louder' volume control on a radio--that is a potentiometer. On an engine, it can send signal to computer/motronic to tell how much you have twisted the throttle on/off. Computer can then make adjustments to other systems as it thinks is needed. Unless you have been messing with the idle controls, 1 of these issues is your problem. also try this: 1. Turn the key on but do not start the bike.
2. Fully twist the throttle open and closed two times.
3. Then start the bike

Turn both low and high adjustment screws carefully clockwise all the way in - do not overtighten.. Then back out each two full turns. Set the idle speed control for highest setting. Prime and start and let it run and warm up for about 15 seconds - then lower the rpms a tad and then adjust the low end screw for highest rpm. Then reset the idle to lower reasonable level. You may have to go back and forth with those two adjustments till it runs fine at low idle speed..

Then accelerate to highest speed and set the high adjustment for highest rpm. Then go from idle to high speed. If not smooth a small adjustment on the high speed screw is in order. Keep doing that until you get a nice smooth transition form low speed to high speed.

Ryobi 725r carb adjustments

Zama Carb? Turn both low and high meter screws 2 full turns counterclockwise, and idle speed control to maximum. Prime unit and start motor. Run for about ten seconds and then turn idle jet (clockwise) for maximum rpm and then lower idle rpms - readjust idle meter as necessary along with idle screw. Then gun unit at high speed and turn high screw for maximum rpm. Go from idle to max and make sure there is a smooth transition. If not play a tad with the idle mixture screw till that is achieved.

I do not think this will cause any damage. If it starts and runs fine I think you did a good thing.

Idling problem toyota altis

Either there is a vacuum leak causing the high idle, or
the IACV is bad or being controlled by the computer to make idle speed too high:

To change the IACV refer to the following:
Idle Speed Control (Idle Air Control) Valve Removal & Installation To Remove:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove the throttle body. Idle speed control valve toy_cor-04-18-1187.gif

  3. Remove the 3 mounting screws from the throttle body. Remove the idle speed control valve and gasket.
To Install:
  1. Using a new gasket install the idle speed control valve on the throttle body with the 3 mounting screws.
    • Tighten 33 inch lbs. (3.7 Nm).
  2. Install the throttle body.

Engine dies upon acceleration after starting and idling

turn the high speed and low speed mixture screws right in[gently]then out 2.5 turns.start it up,screw the idle screw up till it will idle, then adjust low speed mixture screw in or out so you get the highest idle.keep lowering the idle so as you adjust the screw,it wont get it any higher in revs.so by now it should idle.next, open the throttle wide, and adjust the high speed screw until you get maximum revs..then,turn screw 1/4 turn out.that makes it slightly richer, cooling the plug with droplets of petrol.you dont want it lean.if it wont rev fully, check the fuel filter.they get dirty quite often

After warm up will not idle dies at every stop

If the bike is equipped with a carburator, you could simply raise the idle speed a bit. Look at the top of the carb and you'll see a large round looking cover. On the right side of this cover, there is a small screw. This is the idle stop screw and it sets the idle speed of the engine. With the engine at full operating temperature, set the idle speed at 1000 rpm or so. Turning the screw clockwise increases the idle speed.

If you engine is fuel injected, you'll have to take the bike to a repair shop to have the idle speed adjusted.

Good Luck, Steve

Idling to high

Hi jmach,

There is nothing wrong with your vehicle and no need to have anything repaired.... The high idle speed is controlled by the on board ECU...(the Electronic Control Unit).... When starting the vehicle from cold, the automatic enrichment of fuel increases the idle speed... Depending on the ambient air temperature.... the colder the weather, the longer the engine will take longer to return to normal idle speed. Thats how it's designed to operate.
