Question about 2000 Yamaha YZF-R1

2 Answers

My 2000 yamaha yzf r1 will not start/stay running unless I have the choke on or am holding the throttle open to about 2000rpm. Happened after it sat for two weeks of vacation. Ran great before it sat for those two weeks. What can I do?

I also have a 2000 R1. Just about the same thing happened to me. I was able to start it but sounded like a bad plug. So i replaced the plugs. Started back up and now the low end sounds like a moped and the top end sounds perfect. But without throtle open or choke open the bike will stall. The local shop suggested that i take the carbs off and clean them. Now that ive done that and cleaned up with carb and choke cleaner, the bike will stay running at idle but still has a popping sound at idle. Anyone have any suggestions? I want to ge this fixed before its down for winter.

SOURCE: 2000 yzf R6 inconsistant idle under choke cuts out when punched

Yes. Sounds like main jets are blocked. Gas will start to varnish after a couple of months. This builds up over time and sticks the main jets. Go to this website and select discuss this bike.http://www.bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_yzf-r6_2000.php

SOURCE: how much oil does a yamaha yzf r1 2007 take

"most" bikes on average without filter change take anywhere from 2.8 to 3.0 qts. I always purchase 4 quarts because an extra one will always come in handy in the future anyway. First your bike i believe has a sight gauge... First stand the bike upright on a stand or have someone hold it up for you pour in 2 and 1/2 quarts, put fill cap on, start bike, let warm up for about a minute to let the oil settle, then turn off and then start pouring in slowly till it gets to a little above 3/4 full on the sight gauge...you never want to overfill it could cause engine damage. Now just remember how much oil you put in and that is the approx. amount.

2000 yamaha r1 revs high at normal driving speeds at normal operating temps

Carbs either need to be synched,or the idle adjusted. Always adjust the idle at operating temprature. Also,be sure to have some slack/play in the throttle grip,so as to make sure its not adjusted too tight and holding the throttle open.

2000 r1 as temperature increases, revs go up to over 2000rpm

make sure your gas cable isnt binding (like dry never oiled) somewhere, that happens sometimes withjust a bit of exta heat. plugs have nothing to do with it. choke could be comming on (loose or binding) or not shutting off which would cause the rpm to go up as its warming. carb low idle screw is out or the worst-ignition module/computer screwed
