Is it cable or hydrolic clutch lever ? if cable then make sure there is 3mm free play on the lever ! is cable free and not dry , oil it !?? some clutch's have an adjuster in the middle , nut and screw , undo the nut and back the screw off about 2mm and try ! to do this remove the side case !! drain oil first !! if this doesnt solve it then replace the clutch plates , fiber and metal !

Sounds like the bike has been doing wheeles and burnouts. As the clutch plates wear the cable needs adjusting. You have reached the end of the actuating cam. New plates are your best bet.

SOURCE: have zl 900 1985 model clutch slips bad replaced

It might have a "wet" clutch like my Yamaha which means that the clutch is in contact with the motor oil. If you use motor oils that have cleaners in them to remove gunk and all that bad stuff then it can cause your clutch to slip. I don't mind the clutch slip though it keeps the bike from popping a wheelie under hard acceleration :)

SOURCE: Rpms speed up faster then bike does. Sounds like clutch slip.

You can adjust it by slackening the cable...unless it has hydraulic operation....Otherwise get it replaced before you do more damage..ie clutch dust and debris in the oil, so dont forget the oil and filter change too.

Yamaha has a curved washer style clutch spring that it uses for this model. These have been prone to slipping from day 1. Normally when you get on the throttle hot and heavy. A new spring will help the situation for a while but you may have to replace the clutch pack to get more pressure through out the clutch pack if the bike has high miles on it. Maybe the dealer would know if the VMAX spring is heavier and would work as a replacement.

There are some locations online to find manuals. Tradebits.com is one, Myxmanuals.com is another. As far as parts are concerned they are getting harder to find by the day. I hope you the best of luck finding them.
