Go to the starter and pull back the rubber cover on the cable over the positive battery post on starter and take off the nut. Take the two bolts at the back of the starter. Now grab the starter and , like a plug in a wall socket , pull it out. Installation is reverse order.

1983 Honda CBX 550 F-F2 will not turn over

Hi, Anonymous before testing any electrical component in the Starting System it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
4. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
5. FOB battery low or dead.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
9. Security alarm needs a reset.
10. Starter relay, solenoid, starter motor or circuit wiring faulty.
11. Starter armature or field coils have failed.
12. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
13. Faulty ignition relay.
14. The electric starter is working but starter clutch has failed.
15. Check for engine trouble codes.

WILL ANY OTHER STARTER MOTOR FIT A 1983 HONDA CBX 550 F-F2 @

Hi, Anonymous parts swapping is common with most motorcycles when it comes to interchangeable or compatible parts from one model with another the best thing to do is call your local Dealership Parts Department or a reputable independent shop. If your location is not near a shop then go online and find a parts catalog or "FICHE" and match part numbers depending on your criteria.

1983 shadow 500vt will turn over but not crank

You ill need to take off your left engine cover, remove the flywheel, and replace the starter gear (part#5) and three rollers (part#13). This is your one-way clutch that allows your starter motor to turn the engine over. The gear mating surface has become rough or chattered and is not grabbing properly.Replace these parts and your starter motor will turn the engine over again. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1983-honda-vt500c-shadow/o/m9690#sch421900

When starting the bike the starter motor makes a humming noise and will not turn over the engine. I would like to know if there is anything other then changing the starter. I am going to try to short...

To jump your starter motor , you jump the two terminals on the starter solenoid. If the starter motor works now you need a new solenoid. If your starter motor is spinning but your motor is not , the problem is inside the motor. The starter gear and one way clutch need to be replaced . Unfortunately , you need to drop the motor out of the frame and pull off the rear cover to fix this issue.

Bad Starter?

i would put a voltmeter on my battery if i was you and bet your not putting out 13+ volts...to prove this, jump start your bike and see how quick it turns over... i would take my starter to someone who rebuilds starters and have it overhauled if the first trick doesn't work....those old big bikes take a lot of juice ! good luck to you...Tim

Brushes in starter

Yes. It can be done. The starter motor is located outside the engine block so it should be easy to take it out. from there, you may disassemble the starter motor and replace the carbon brush as you wish.

1983 honda civic wont start now

hi have you checked the leads from battery to starter are secure ? also important that the negative earth lead from battery to the engine is also secure and in good condition on the starter you should have main cable from battery and a thinner cable both connected to solenoid on one terminal ? then a thin wire to a small push on terminal? this wire is the key start wire which energises the slenoid/starter
