Question about 2000 Buell M2 Cyclone

1 Answer

I am trying to replace the starter gasket on my 2000 buell cyclone. Im attempting to remove the primary cover to access the starter bolts but the primary cover does not want to come off even with the bolts removed. Is there something I'm overlooking?

If you have removed all the visible bolts, then the problem is most likely it is just stuck from the gasket sticking to both surfaces. If this is the case, i would suggest using a Rubber Mallet, and gently tapping around the primary cover in different places to try and dislodge it from the primary case.
Good luck

Starter replacement

the bolts are behind the primary cover - the cover behind the shifter. you need to download the factory service manual - do a google search for it. It details how to do it. You can also reference a 2004 Harley sportster too.

How to change a starter motor on a 2000 Buell CycloneM2?

The loud Click click click isn't because the starter is bad it is because your battery doesn't have enough power to kick it over. Change your battery. The click will stop. Harley starters either spin without making any click noises or don't make any noise when they go bad.

How to remove primary cover on 03 buell firebolt

Remove the entire shift linkage, and there is something like a dozen bolts that hold the cover on, remove those. The gasket will probably hold the cover on there pretty solid, so you may need to use a rubber mallet to nudge it loose and use a flathead screwdriver with some masking tape on the tip and pry it open.

1995 883 harley sportster i would like to know what is involved in removing primary cover?.........please

There are a number of allen head bolts you have to remove, unless you are planning on working on your clutch or your primary chain needs replacing I would not bother going to all the trouble of removing it, as the primary chain adjuster can be accessed through the the small access plate in the primary cover. You will have to replace the gasket but you won't lose your primary oil this way.
If you do remember you will have to replace the gasket and the primary oil when you reassemble as well as torquing the bolts back to their specifications.

1 Answer how to change starter on 2002 buel x1 whitelightning i need help

First off, I don't have a lot of experience with Buells but I do know Sportsters and a Buell uses a Sportster engine basically. To remove the starter, you must drain the primary and remove the primary cover. You will probably have to loosen the primary chain adjuster underneath the primary cover. The two bolts that hold the starter on are inside the primary just above the clutch. There is a long bolt and a short bolt. Disconnect the battery cable from the battery negative post before you begin and then disconnect the positive cable from the starter. You'll have to remove whatever is necessary to get access to the starter from the right side of the bike. I hope this helps,

Good Luck

Think its a bad starter

I can tell you how to remove the starter, and it is rebuildable, but it doesnt SOUND like a bad starter. THE FIRST thing I would do is check all the battery cable connections. Loosen and retighten them and see if that helps.

Take cover off where u adjust clutch on primary just follow clutch cable where it enters primary to right 4 bolts get new gasket from harley take off cover below is a drain bolt take out drain old oil put back in get 2 guarts of air, cooled, wet clutch engine oil pour in where u took 4 bolts out of cover stand bike up straight or pour a little then stand bike up to see level where oil is the level should be even with bottom of clutch diaphragm spring the drain plug torque is 14-30 foot pounds of torque remeber bike up straight and the amount of oil for next time use 2 inch hole above shifter with 2 bolts has o-ring do not need to replace ever time drain replace plug torque pour exact amount u poured in primary when u took out the 4 bolts. Use wet clutch oil or u will destroy cluth material inside and u will go no where no exception otherwise have a couple hundred in bank to replace clutch and u can put any kind of oil u want just have other tranportation and not be in A hurry to get anywhere

How do I replace starter on 2000 sportster

You must remove the primary to reach 2 bolts holding in the starter. This is a pretty big job, first completely loosen the clutch cable, remove the derby cover, disconnect clutch cable, remove inspection cover, drain primary fluid, loosen primary chain tension er, remove shifter linkage, remove primary cover ( use a Styrofoam board to place bolts in order due to different lenghts), remove ramp and ball assembly ( need snap ring plyers), using a tool to lock the clutch basket and primary drive remove bolts( I don't remember which but one removes left hand), you now can reach the bolts holding in the starter. As I stated this is a pretty big job and you should have a manuel before starting, if you don't want to buy one you can check one out at most library's. Reverse to install and remember LOCK TITE everything.
