The only thing that I call a "timing cover" is the metal plate that goes over the timing cavity in the middle of the gearcase cover on the right side of the engine.

Good luck

How to know a vehicle has timing belt or timing chain? this website http://www.timingchainorbelt.com/ is not working. please advise. Thanks a lot

Most car timing covers are either metal or plastic. the timing chains are usually in a metal sealed cover due to oil being used to lubricate the chain and gear assemblies and timing belts are usually in a removable plastic housing with some sort of access cover to inspect the belt, usually it is a two piece cover where as a timing chain is in a one piece cover. know-vehicle-timing-belt-or-timing-c3hyvbb5dw5lz1xfja5a3wpz-4-0.jpg

I have a massive oil leak coming from my timing cover (or gasket) in my 2000 Toyota Camry. ( About 1/2 a quart for five minutes of idle) How much does this cost to repair and how did this happe

You have more problems than the timing cover. It sounds like your crank seal is gone, or you engine oil pump leaking. Your timing cover doesn't have oil in it. . Tell your 'Mechanic '' to take the timing cover off and see where it's coming from. And while you are there you should also change your water pump. They usually have about the same life span as the timing chain. Make sure you use all new gaskets O ring and seals. Let me know what it looks like after the cover is removed. You have to remove the valve cover on some toyotas to get at the cover. Hope this info helps keep me informed Cheers from Nova Scotia

How do you remove timing cover on a 2001 dodge durango 5.9

this thing, has a lot things to do. a certified technicians only can do the job. but if you wanna do it alone, here are some instruction(s) after removing the parts to have acces on it.
1. Remove the crankshaft pulley using the appropriate socket.
2. Remove the harmonic balancer using the harmonic balancer puller.
3. Loosen the oil pan bolts.
4. Remove the front two oil pan bolts--one on each side of the crankshaft--these two bolts help hold the timing cover in place.
4. Remove the timing cover bolts using the appropriate socket.
5.Pull the cover off the block.
6.Remove the seal from the timing cover using a seal puller(if it is your problem).
7. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces on the engine and timing cover with the scraper.
8. Smear a thin layer of silicone on the timing cover's gasket mounting surface.
9. Fit the gasket on the timing cover.
10. Install the timing cover and tighten the bolts to it's specified torque.
11. Reinstall the two oil pan bolts and tighten them to it's specified torque.
12. Reinstall the accessories in reverse order of removal.

Water pump bolt broke off

Common problem. You are in for a rough ride my friend. The only way to fix that is to remove the rest of the bolts, the front crankshaft dampener pulley and take the timing chain cover off. Usually the bolt is seized into the timing cover itself and the timing cover ends up getting destroyed in the process. Once the cover is out of the way, the bolt will most likely come out fairly easilly with a pair of Vise-Grips.

Fortunately, a replacement timing chain cover is not real expensive. The trick is to get the [BLANKETY] thing off without causing any damage to the engine block. If you are going that far, I recommend putting a new timing chain set on it while you are in there.

Recommended parts: Timing cover gasket and front seal set, timing chain and gear set, and possibly a new timing cover unless you can get it off without ANY damage.

Keep in mind that if you have to pry it off and the pry tool leaves indentations in the gasket surface, or if you "warp" the cover, the timing cover MUST be replaced unless you want to do the job over to fix oil and engine coolant leaks. (It doesn't take much to make the thing leak)

Easiest way to check timing belt

If you simply want to check the timing belt condition, then remove the plastic cover and visually inspect it. If you have the 5 sfe engine, the timing belt cover is a 2 piece assembly, upper and lower. if you have the 7 afe or 4 afe engine the timing cover is 3 pieces and to inspect the top of the timing belt you must remove the 4 nuts holding the valve cover down and the 2 bolts holding the wire loom. remove the whole valve cover. to inspect timing belt condition.

What is timing cover and if this goes do you need to replace timing chain and water pump

engine with 3.3 liters and 3.8 liters are equiped with timing chain.
the timing chain cover is the cover that cover and protect the chain
it must be seal because there is oil that come from the oil pan to lubricate the chain.
normally the cover does not go bad unless the chain broke or some thing hits it.
the water pump is out side and not involed in the timing chain or it cover
