Question about Harley Davidson FXST - FXSTI Softail standard Motorcycles

1998 FXSTC turn signals light up but don't blink. Ground is good. Did test of connecting pin 8 to a meter and have 12 volts.

The blinkin mechanisms may need replacin-bikes 12yrs-Im assumin u hav a service manual if not easy to find on web

Plug trailer connector to 2000 expedition unly get running lights only no turn signals


If you have a 12 volt test light or volt ohm meter first verify #1 has continuity with chassis ground. Below is a picture how your vehicle is wired, It may just be fuses in your car. Easiest way to imbed the turn signal / brake light circuit wire color code is Green grass on right side of the road and yellow lines on left side of the road. An inexpensive 12 volt test light (looks like an ice pick with a wire with an alligator clip coming out the opposite end of the sharp ice pick end

Battery keeps dying


Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12 volts or better after charging.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. Clip a testlite to a good ground and touch regulator pin, if light glows replace regulator.
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor. Good luck

I need a ground schematic for a 1999 nissan maxima


Hi James,

Ground (-12 volt side of the battery) is the entire metallic parts of the car body / frame / chassis. Auto schematics only show non-grounded (+12 volt side of the battery, data and signal) circuits. This is done to reduce clutter and make it easier to read the schematics.

You will find -12V or ground on nearly all metal body / frame / chassis parts of the vehicle. To be sure you are on ground, stretch a wire from the + post of the battery to a test light or the (+) jack or probe of a meter capable of reading at least 12 VDC and touch the the probe connected to the (-) jack to the target grounded panel. If it is ground, you should read 12 volts on the meter - or in the case of the test light - a brightly illuminated lamp. A meter is the preferred device as most people can not tell the difference between a light connected to 12V vs one connected to 10V. The meter assures you of a solidly connected grounded part.

Left rear Tail lamp not working (bulb and fuse is fine)


If you have access to a simple 12 volt test light, you can remove the bulb you replaced, turn on the turn signal and park lights and see if the test light lights up. If the turn signal contact blinks the test light and the tail contact lights the test light, you know your power supply to the bulb is good.
Next you will check the ground.
Using your test light, carefully touch the tail light contact with the test light tip and touch the test light ground to the socket ground. If the ground is good the test light should light.
Let me know what you find and we will go from there.
