Question about 1996 Yamaha Royal Star XVZ 1300 A

1 Answer

XVZ 1300 V-4 Royal Star - Number one carb continues leaking liquid fuel into the valve chamber (somehow/somewhere) after engine is turned off. Dealer techs say needle valves/floats have been checked/replaced and can't figure it out. It starts/runs great, but blows a tablespoon of raw gas out number one's exhaust pipe until it clears out the excess fuel. It will "wash out" the engine by thinning the oil if left unfixed. How else can liquid fuel get into the valve chamber?

Hi, Royotto and the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
2. Loose float bowl screws.
3. Damaged float bowl o-ring.
4. improper fuel level in the float bowl.
5. Worn or dirty inlet valve or seat.
6. Damaged or leaking float assembly.
7. Particle contamination in inlet fitting cavity.

Carb joints dry-rotted

My understanding is that they have a metal liner sandwiched in between the inner and outer layers of the carb joints. Mine are cracked and look like they are breathing when running. Mine are not leaking and arw doing fine. 96 Royal Star.

1998 yamaha royal star backfires especially when decelerating

Backfiring is a sign of an air leak. Somehow air is being allowed into the exhaust system. If you or a previous owner has drilled out the baffles to increase sound, this could be the cause. A burned valve could contribute but is not likely unless the engine has been severely overheated. A burned valve will also cause poor performance and it can pop upon acceleration which was not mentioned in your original question so I doubt it is a valve causing the problem. Plus - these engines are pretty reliable and robust. I bet on the air leak.

My yamaha 1998 royal star xvz 1300 wont stay runin runs on choke then wen u take it off will shut off ...?

If the bike sat through winter...carbs may be gummed up on idle circuit....could try a product like Seafoam ...add to tank.....run for awhile to get the treated gas in carbs....then let it sit a day and retry.
You're certain its actually firing on all 4 plug wires?

Lost of power on throttle increase and motor dies when coming off throttle on 96 carbed yamaha royal star deluxe. No idle without choke. Only runs on choke on. Used gas carb cleaner and high octane fuel...

I would say you have a blocked or damaged jet. I would strip down the carburettor and replace any badly worn jets and clean thoroughly. When refitting the tick over mixture screw , screw it home and back out about 2 1/2 turns. That will be somewhere near it.
Hope that helps.
