Start it up cold, and feel the exhaust pipes as it runs, and keep checking both near the engine. (Becareful as they should get hot quickly) A cold pipe means a dead cylinder. Then you need to verify three things...
does it have compression?
is it getting fuel?
does it have spark?

Missing on cylinder three

Since he worked on it last, and I assume it was ok when you left it, he's on the hook to find the problem. If someone else works on it, and the problem was something he did, you have no way to charge him for the repairs.
It could be a wiring problem, ignition, or fuel injector among other things.

Can a vehicle still run if a cylinder is blown?

It can but will quickly fall apart. Symptoms can vary - if you simple lost a ring (or two) then the engine will run, just ruff. If it was something more catastrophic then I doubt it will run for long for pieces will start to go places they weren't deigned to go.

20000 GMC Jimmy brake light came on, someone told us it's the booster. Is this the same as the master cylinder or something different. Also where is it located?

don`t just change parts because someone told you to without checking it out first.with the brake light on check the fluid level in the master cylinder if its down check the float in the cylinder as these will get stuck.also check for fluid leaks in the entire brake system and condition of the brakes themselves as when they wear especially the disc brakes the fluid will go down as the brake fluid takes up the worn brake material so the calipers don`t have to move as far to apply the brakes.the master cylinder is the component that holds the brake fluid under the hood that you would top up if low.the brakes booster is what the master is bolted to and gives the car power brakes as opposed to manual brakes.

We changed the pads, rotors, drums and shoes on our 2001 montana, after we were done the break pedal goes to the floor, we were told to change the master cylinder and did,, but it didnt fix the problem,...

After you change brakes you need to bleed air from the brake lines what you need to do is find the bleeder valve its usually rite beside where the brake line goes in the calipers and looks like a grease fitting get someone to pump the brake pedal 3 or 4 times and hold it while someone else loosens the bleeder valve to drain the air out keep the pedal mashed until you get the bleeder valve tightend back up . Do each wheel until fluid comes out check brake fluid while doing this so it doesnt run out. Hope this helps

I have a pontiac transport i have several mechanics look at it and i was told something different the is a blinking check engine light the van still runs its not using oil its putts a little i was told...

A "blinking" Check Engine light means that you have a serious problem with you engine management system that will cause damage to the catalytic converter if it is not fixed soon. You have already done the first part of the fix. If the computer is setting a code P0302 (This would be misfire on cylinder #2) then you must diagnose why cylinder #2 is misfiring. Yes, it could be caused by a faulty spark plug and misfire codes are fixed all the time by doing a simple tune-up. You also need to be aware however, that misfires can also be caused by many other things as well. It could be a bad wire, a bad coil, a vacuum leak, a bad injector, burned engine valves, etc. I would pull the plug and check the condition of it first. Also check for spark coming from the plug wire. If these are obviously bad, do a tune-up. If you are not sure if the plug is bad, you can switch it with another cylinder and clear the codes and drive the vehicle. If the computer now sets a code for the cylinder that you swapped the plug with, then the problem is definitely the plug. If the computer still sets the code for cylinder #2, then there is something else wrong.

1991 honda civic not running on third cylinder. Have changed plugs and they are all firing. What could it be? Someone told me a burnt valve but it started acting up all of a sudden.

You could have bad compression rings on that piston. I would do a compression test on that cylinder, also I would check the fuel injector.

the thermocompact is a non-condensing model, and should be o.k to fix, you do not need a cylinder as is a combi model and would provide hot water on demand!

Misfiring after over heat

Have they run a compression check on the cylinder? if the rod is bent it will lower the pressure in the cylinder, bent valves of course can do this as well.

i posted a comment. check the motor mounts. that will be the sipilest thing to check. if one is broken or cracked it will cause the engine to shake because there is nothing there holding or absorbing the engine movement......

My 96 Cadillac Eldo keeps overheating

Hello, look on the left (driver side) front of the engine, you will see at the end of the closest to you, on the cylinder head, a pulley. This pulley runs your water pump, by a belt connection. Check and see if that belt is on.
If you are adding water, you should have it pressure tested, as it could be the water pump(which takes a special tool to replace) or a bad head gasket.
