Carb removal 2005 harley davidson 883 sportster

The airbox/air filter assembly holds the carb in place. Once the air cleaner assembly is removed, you can pull the carb out of the rubber seal that connects it to the intake manifold. There are four screws at the bottom of the carb (float bowl) that you will have to remove to get to the jets. Good luck!

1998 Sportster 883. Trying to remove air filer cover, one bolt comes out no issue. Other bolts spins like it wants to come out but doesnt. What options do I have?

The bolts are "undercut". Take all three bolts out at the same time. Loosen one a few turns, then another and then another until they all come out as the backing plate comes away from the carb. They are "undercut" so that they don't come out while the engine is running. They should stay in the air filter backing plate but you can screw them all the way out.

You need to remove the derby cover from the primary that goes over the clutch adjuster. Remove the sping and the locking nut. Turn the adjuster screw clockwise while gently pulling the cover off. The cover should come off then.

2003 883 sportster that has oil coming out of the carb

All Harley engines built after 1994 have been what we call "head breathers". In other words, the crankcase ventilation has been routed into the breather through the heads. The requirement of the crankcase pressures being released into the intake system is the results of EPA anti-pollution regulations. Harley moved the vent from the lower crankcase to the heads to decrease the amount of oil blown out by the ventilation system. But, there is a certain amount of oil mist present in the expelled air. The mist will collect in the breather over time and will eventually drip out of the air cleaner. Regrettably, this is a fact of life with a Harley engine and it's design and it is normal.

Now, you can clean the air cleaner on a regular basis to keep the oil out of the air cleaner or you can purchase a kit that exhausts the crankcase pressure (and the oil mist) somewhere other than the air cleaner. I thnk Kuryakin has a kit.

Good Luck

Remove the carb soak in carb cleaner, **** out small bleed holes with a wire from a wire brush etc. One of the passageways is still clogged, or the float is sticking.

Remove the battery from a hugger 883 2003

Harley has made a few changes but basically the removal of the battery is pretty much the same as it has been for a long time.

Remove the seat first, one bolt at the rear, lift and pull to the rear. Next, there's a strap that holds the battery top cover on. Take the strap loose and remove the top and side covers. Now, on some later models, there is another strap that holds the battery in. Remove it as well. Disconnect the cables from the terminals. The negative should be disconnected first. Sometimes it's not the easiest to get to but with the proper tools it can be done. Remove the positive cable last when taking the battery out. When reinstalling the battery, always connect the postive first, negative last. Safety first. Good Luck.
