Why does Lawn tractor seems to have too much compression and kicks back on starter?

Your valve lash is out of adjustment causing the exhaust Valve to stay closed longer then it should, keeping compression in the cylinder trying to exhaust while in the compression stroke..not a hard job but must be done...good luck

My 650 is blowing oil out of the right hand side exhaust. The right hand also feels cooler to the touch than the other side

Do a compression test to see if you have bad piston rings. You could also have a valve guide issue, but start with a compression test. (Do this with the throttle wide open)

Poor running 650..My left side exhaust is weak. Good compression

Try and switch the coils and plug wires to rule those out. Can be a clogged up muffler, it is easy to pull the baffle. Should be held in with a small rivet or screw. Remove the rivet or screw, get a pair of clamping pliers and clamp them to the end of the baffle and smack that with a hammer to pull it out. Next would be check your valve settings and adjust as needed.

I borrowed my friends 2005 vstar 650. I was

sounds major. Clanking and low on oil sounds like a broken piston ring. Suggest dealer check with compression tester rear cylinder. Replace v star with Harley if necessary.

Two questions: Oil leak from top of engine; bike shut down ridin

the battery terminal being loose would cause that, since the rectifier would freak out. the leak you speak of is probably not eh head gasket ro you would have compression problem with amount of oil that can run down the bike. It sounds like a corner on the valve cover gasket or something I think there is a cover for the valve adjust ment there so check it out the gasket may be worn. no biggie get a new one.

My 77 kz650 looses about half of its power after it is warmed up. iwas told it is my coil packs. i also have a dyna III electronic ign. on the bike and all the coil packs i find on line say they wont work...

hi mate it could be piston rings when metal gets hot it expands and the barrels expand and losses compression into the crank case or blown gaskets check them by removing head and looking in the exhaust port good luck

Upgrades

Pacific coast star has some cams and higher compression pistons that will bump your power significantly on pump gas. I respectfully disagree with Dickcanfixit, because there are a couple "full on" kits that can be had for this engine that'll make the harley Boys take a good look at your taillights.
have fun!
