Question about Harley Davidson FXST Softail Standard Motorcycles
It sounds like a major fuel problem to me. Now you didn't say if it was fuel injected or not. If not, then I'd probably go up one size on the main jet of the carb if it's spitting back out the carb when the throttle is wide open. If you back off just a little bit and the spitting stops, then that's what I'd do, go one richer and try that. If needed go another step richer.
If it's fuel injected, I'd take it to a shop that has a dyno. They should have the ability to change the fuel to air mixture throughout the RPM range. It ain't a cheap job but it well worth the money to get the bike running like it should. Go to a reputable shop.
