If your battery is draining that often then it would have to be the charging system. the best way to check is to disconnect the battery while it is on, if it shuts off then it is the charging system, if not then it is something else.

I'm pretty sure my stator is bad but when I turn my Yamaha Tt-R 225 over it just clicks but when I jump it of it wants to start but only a whining sound could I be wrong period?

stator is only for charging. if you charge battery up and try, it should be fine. stator will just cause excessive battery drain. same as alternator in a car. if you run it and unhook battery... it dies, the stator is bad. keeps running, stator is good.
the clicking is low battery sound, but need more info on whine

Battery failure -- discharging while engine running

Hi, yes you have either a faulty stator or regulator/rectifier. Check if you have ac voltage out of the stator to the regulator if so the reg is bad, if not the stator is bad. Regards Phil.

I had my battery tested in the bike i just purchased 2 b sure it was ok and it tested fine but while on a short ride it stalled out & failrd to restart,as if the battery were dead.i put the battery on

with the bike running
put a volt meter across both battery terminals to see if it is getting charged

the bike has a rectifyer and a the stator working to charge the battery as it is running
the stator is driven off the crankshaft inside the engine casing casing

I have a 2003 Yamaha v star 1100. Just put a new battery. Bike will not start after 2 days of riding. Battery sounds like it is drained. It will not start. Someone told me the recharging system is not...

Simplest way to see if your charging system is working is to get your hands on a meter(you should have one to do troubleshooting) and while the bike is running see what the voltage reading is at the battery terminals.Have someome take the bike off idle and run the RPM up and observe the voltage.Typically your charging system should be putting in anything from 12.5 to 14 volts DC.If not your stator isn't up to par.If it seems to be charging check your terminals and your ground strap for good clean connections. If these are good you have a short to ground somewhere in the system and that meter is going to become very handy in tracking it down good luck

1987 FXLR 80" 11-1 compression Evo Engine. S&S heads, barrels, and carb matched to a '91 clutch assembly and a Spyke starter. Have a continual problem of having the starter jack-shaft "fall" and...

The problem on your starter sounds like the "overrunning clutch" in the starter. The jackshaft cannot "fall" as the outer end of it is supported by the outer primary cover. It's engaging your ring gear, just not turning the engine. If the start spins, this means the jackshaft has been pushed into the engaged position because the starter will not spin until the solenoid plunger is in the full forward position. So, the only thing left is the "starter clutch". With a compression ratio like you have, you should be running compression releases if you wish to keep even a Spyke starter in the bike.

As for the electrical problem, it sounds like you've got a stator shorting out on you. I had one customer with a 90 FXR that was happening to. His bike would run fine for days and weeks but ever so often, it wouldn't start due to a dead battery and he'd just been riding it. We replaced the entire charging system. The only thing that we hadn't replaced prior to that was the stator. Now, if you wish to prove this, you'll have to catch the problem when it's not charging the battery. If you wish, you can purchase a voltmeter at any automotive parts house and install it on your bike. The battery should charge at 14.5 to 14.8 volts. Anything below that, the battery will slowly discharge. If you can, test the stator output. Unplug the connector at the cases. Inspect the connector to make sure the connections are in good shape up inside the plug. You need one those hold downs that keep this plug tight as well. Using a DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter) put one of the meter leads on each pin in the case, put the meter in AC volts, 50 volt range. Start the engine and you should read about 25 volts or greater. If not, the stator is defective.

Good Luck
Steve.

STALLING AND LOSING POWER WHILE RIDING

If battery is running down. The engine may not be charging the battery. Check charging system. If running on battery, the bike will run fine for awhile then die as the battery can no longer provide spark to the engine. If charging system is less than 13.0 volts could be a ad stator or regulator. Make sure the battery posts are clean, a bad ground can cause problems too.

Battery will not keep a charge.

Get a 2 amp charger and charge the battery fo 3 hours or so. While the battery is charging, check the fuses and check the wiring harness connections between the flywheel and the battery.

Start the bike and rev it up. Use a DC voltmeter to check the battery voltage while running. The voltmeter should read 14+ volts. If not then there may be a problem with the stator.

Pleas rate this solution. Thanks!
