Question about 2003 Suzuki VS 800 Intruder

1 Answer

Hi wondering what i need to do to make my 2003 800 volusia run right at low rpm. the person i bought the bike from hollowed out the exhaust so it seems to be loading up. i changed the main jet to 130 from a 132.5 that cleaned the top end up but the bottom end still wants to pop and fart until you get going. any ideas?

Stock pipes (debaffled) & stock airbox:
128 or 130 main, 30 or 32.5 pilot jet, dyno spring, dyno needle on 3rd notch, mix screw at 2.5 - 3 turns. Adjust idle knob as needed to reach 1100 rpm.

Hi, Norman the parts fiche shows it as a shouldered threaded bolt with a crimp nut remove the nut and tap out the bolt, for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the best tool you ever bought for your Suzuki, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one. Power seems to run out early running through the gears and there is a hollow sound in the exhaust at the end

Hello...from your comment it sounds like your bike needs a valve adjustment. The "hollow" sound in the exhaust and the powerband loss is usually a good indication of this. Have you had them adjusted lately? This first adjustment should be done at 5000 miles and then every 7500 miles there after.
The settings are:
Intake .003 - .005
Exhaust .007 - .009
Always set valves on a COLD engine.

I hope this helps...good luck with your bike.

I am looking to buy my first bike and i am wonder is 28000 miles on a 2003 volusia is considered alot and how many miles do bike usual run for

depends on maker-german n italian rides r produced well--there r many companies thru out the world n much info available--air cooled engines wear out faster then liquid--always warm a bike up 1st n after a trip cool it down by ridin it slow-dont just shut it down-that helps alot--make sure proper oil is present-no ther not as long lived as cars

Lost of power

sounds like you need to refit carburator w/ a larger main jet to richen that cicuit at approx.7/8 to wide open throttle. this is very often necessary when switching from stock to aftermarket hi- flow exhaust system.
