Question about 2000 Harley Davidson XL 1200 C Sportster Custom

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Harley Sportster 1200 Custom. My headlight was not working one day and some friends I was riding with took off seat and changed some fuse, well the headlight worked but I now have no odometer/tripometer and my turn signals do not go off by themselves;as before, after turn. I do not have a bucket of $$s to give a mechanic but do have a friend that will fix for me if I get the wiring specs. Where can I get them?

Sounds like your friends changed your good insterment fuse for your bad headlight fuse. the reason your turn signals won't cancel is because the speedo is not working. get new fuses and replace all the fuses. if this don't fix it let me know and we will look in to it further.

Where is the fuse box?

Hi Showercapban, 1998 and later Sportster models circuit breaker and fuses were located in an electrical bracket behind the starter relay and data link that was mounted behind the left side panel. 1997 and earlier circuit breakers only no fuses were located under the seat and for a free wiring diagram please visit the website below and good luck.Harley Davidson Wiring Diagrams and Schematics

How to put a seat together for a harley davidson xl 1200 sportster?

On a 2000 XL 1200 or 883 you would slide the seat through the seat strap and then locate the front of the seat on the tab at the frame and push the seat forward until the seat mount at the back of the seat lines up with the bolt hole on the fender and then screw the seat into place with a phillips screw driver.

if the oil tank is above the crank case, inspect the oil pump check valve. go online and study the check valve's functional purpose and see to it that the vale is operating properly. it should not be an expensive fix.
if you reroute hose be carefull of rear tire annnd what does the oil level in the oil tank sit at when full and after the leak happens after -say a day of riding- a week
