My quad will only stay on with choke, once choke is off, bike dies instantl. Why? I changed out all jets, same problem.

You need to check the pilot air-screw setting also check the pilot air screw (PAS) and the hole it screws into for dirt/debris etc. Clean the screw and spray some cleaner into the hole. You need to know how many turns out the PAS setting is. Once you have this information gently screw the PAS into the hole until it just stops do not over tighten in any way it just has to be seated. You need to then turn the PAS out the recommended number of turns, hopefully this should solve your problem. Good Luck.

How to ajust carb on a harley 1100 sportster need to know settings bike is jumps in 1 st & 2 nd gear after 2 nd runs good

Hi Deeprun5, on the right hand side of the carburator there is an idle adjusting screw with a spring behind it, turn screw clockwise to increase idle counter clockwise to decrease idle. There is also an air/fuel mixture screw inside a carb body lug that may or may not be plugged with an aluminum cap that's about 3/16" thick. This cap can be drilled out to acess the air/fuel mixture screw. Turning screw clockwise will lean out mixture and lower idle, turning screw counter clockwise will richen mixture and raise idle. You need to balance the two adjusting screws to obtain an idle of 950-1000 RPM then back out air/fuel mixture screw 1/4 turn, snap throttle to confirm responce, you may continue to back out air/fuel mixture screw untill desired throttle responce is achieved, if you see black smoke coming out of exhaust you have gone to far and need to turn screw back in 1/8 turn at a time, final adjustment should be made with the engine at normal operating temperature. Good luck.

Hi I have an '81 yamaha virago 750,I don't know how to adjust the carbs,it getting too much gas and I was told I needed to close the gas off and open the air.....????

Below is a diagram. Turn the air screw inward until it lightly seats then open it up two turns. Set the idle speed with the throttle screw. The throttle screw pushes against a lever on the outside of the carb. From there, adjust the air screw for best idle speed. Do this for both carbs. Be sure the air cleaner is clean.

Need to know about carb adjustment for tomos st sept 2010 question 1 the screw adjust questtion 2 finger turn adjustment what do either do and if totally screwed in how many turns out do i do...

LIGHTLY seat the air screw and the throttle screw. Now open both of them up one and one-half turns. Adjust idle speed with the throttle screw. Normally, the throttle screw sticks out about 1/2" to 3/4" from the throat of the carb. The air screw is short and usually recessed. If the screws have been tightened down anything more than lightly, the screw seat may have indented the screw face. If the face is ringed, the engine usually will not run well. The screws would need to be replaced. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

My 1987 yamaha 80cc big wheel will not idle. would like to know how to adjust air mixture and idle screws?

well first try the choke if it runs good when you pull the choke even a little then you need less air, if it runs worse then you need less air, in is less air and out is more air thats the air mixture screw.
idle screw is self explanitory start turning it if it idles up then your turning it up if it idles down then you are idling down usually in is up.

Need to adjust my honda shadow 500 vt carburator's fuel/air mixture

start by synchronizing your throttle plates. Honda calls the next step the "idle drop procedure". u need to know if you have fuel adj. screws or air adj. screws. fuel screws will be on engine side of carb slide, air screws will be on airbox side of carb slide. start leaning out mixture, (turn in fuel screw, turn out air screw. idle will increase so keep adjusting idle back to spec.after each turn if needed. Adjust about 1/4 to 1/2 turn at a time on each carb until there is no change in idle, then richen up mixture by one half turn. If u sync throttle plates first then follow this procedure, there should be no hesitation when you "blip" the throttle, and after revving it should return to idle smooth,

Need to know how many turns do i turn out the needle valves on the 11 hp briggs @ stratton. need to know for everyone. thanks

ADJUSTING THE IDLE SPEED AND MIXTURE
On some float-type carburetors, you can adjust the air-fuel mixture and engine speed at idle. Check for an idle speed screw designed to keep the throttle plate from closing completely, and an idle mixture screw that limits the flow of fuel at idle. If your carburetor contains these screws, proceed below.
  1. With the engine off, remove the air filter and air cartridge.
  2. Locate the idle mixture screw and turn it clockwise until the needle lightly touches the seat. Then, turn the screw counterclockwise 1-1/2 turns.
  3. If your carburetor has a main jet adjustment screw at the base of the float bowl, turn the screw clockwise until you feel it just touch the seat inside the emulsion tube. Then, turn the screw counterclockwise 1 to 1-1/2 turns. Replace the air cleaner assembly and start the engine for final carburetor adjustments.
  4. Run the engine for five minutes at half throttle to bring it to its operating temperature. Then, turn the idle mixture screw slowly clockwise until the engine begins to slow. Turn the screw in the opposite direction until the engine again begins to slow (image A). Finally, turn the screw back to the midpoint.
  5. Using a tachometer to gauge engine speed (image B), set the idle speed screw to bring the engine to 1750 RPM for aluminum-cylinder engine or 1200 RPM for engine with a cast-iron cylinder sleeve.
  6. With the engine running at idle (image D), hold the throttle lever against the idle speed screw to bring the engine speed to "true idle." Then, repeat the idle mixture screw adjustments from Step 4 to fine-tune the mixture (image C).
