Question about 2002 Honda VT 750 CD Shadow A.C.E. Deluxe
The button is supposed to turn off the headlight when pushed in halfway and engage the solenoid when pushed in the rest of the way. It is not supposed to engage the starter halfway but NOT all the way. I think the button is either dirty , shorting ,or damaged. You can carefully take it apart and try cleaning it . If that does not work, you will have to replace the switch assembly. New or used , either is fine as long as it works. Honda only sells the switch with the housing as an assembly.

Over the past 100,000 miles of riding my 2002 ace I have taken my switch apart twice to clean and tinker with the spring until it is the correct 'springiness'. Just take your time and be gentle with the plastic.
