1994 Honda VFR 750F Backfiring Issues (Possible Causes and Solutions)

I would start with synchronizing the carburetors. Could possibly be timing but doubtful with that particular bike. I would go ahead and check the timing chain tension. If they are loose enough the camshafts can jump one link and cause sonar issues, along with power loss.

Just purchased a 99 vfr honda and was wondering how to adjust chain ?

Should be adjusters just behind the rear axle. You loosen the axel bolt and turn the adjusters, making sure to keep them equal. Do not overtighten, as the chain needs some slack for the suspension to move without stretching the chain. You should get the owner's manual to set the chain tension properly.

How do i tighten the chain on my 2002 vfr800 vtech, it seems a bit loose and i can hear it dragging

Set the bike on its center stand, then loosen the rear axle by removing cotter pin from hex nut and loosening the nut. There are two adjustment bolts, with lock nuts - one on each side of the rear axle. They are easily work with from the rear of the bike. Loosen the lock nuts and turn the adjustment bolts clockwise. this will draw the rear axle (wheel) backwards - tightening the chain. Take care to turn each side the same amount, so the rear wheel remains straight. Usually the flex in the chain should be about a quarter inch. After adjusting, tighten lock nuts to hold position of rear axle and tighten the axle nut, replace cotter pin.

Chane slack

Slacken the wheel nut a couple of turns ,then simply adjust tension with the chain adjusters at the rear of the swingarm legs. Look carefully you will see notches marked on both sides of the swingarm by the wheel spindle these must be the same on both sides, your manual will tell you the chain slack for your bike.probably about 25-35mm put a ruler up to the chain and using finger pressure push up on the chain ,this is the chain slack. Once done tighten the wheel nut up to correct torque setting.( manual or call local dealer),then replace split pin with new through the wheel nut. Double check all your work no loose nuts, then sit on the bike get a friend to wiggle the chain there should be small slack as first meashured 25-35mm again, if not re-try,once experienced you will do it first time.

Is there an adjustable chain tensioner

The rear wheel hub is eccentrically mounted and held in position by a pinch bolt. Simply slacken off the pinch bolt rotate the hub using the C spanner supplied in the tool kit, retighten, check tension in accordance with the sticker on the chain guard and you are in business.

Slapping noise after chain adjust

hi there,,1,5, to two inches is correct,, is that all the way round by the way, sometimes u can have a tight spot,,it seems correct sometimes wen adjusted in one position,, but spin the rear wheel round it will either slacken quite a bit,, or go very tight, with no play in it,,,your cush drive rubbers behind the rear sprocket housing on the wheel,, may have a bit of wear in it,, or the chain haz a stiff link in the line,, and needs more oiling,, if the chain is dry ,and right now in salty conditions it will be, then that will cause chain slap,,,
