Question about KTM EXC 250 Racing Motorcycles

1 Answer

I have a 2005 250 KTM EXC-R four stroke, last year I converted it to the KTM 350 kit. What a vast improvement! Starting the engine was on the button every time hot or cold. After running the bike for 12 months with n complaints at all, last week I completed an enduro event. After cleaning the bike I tried to start it as usual to burn of the moisture, but it would not start at all on the button, as it was a dusty event I presumed the carb may have become blocked. I cleaned the carb thoroughly and tried to start it again with no joy at all. Because the battery had run low due to turning the engine so much I then used the kick start, the engine fired with no problem and ran but didn't idle as usual. With a brand new battery it still wont start on the button, but kick it and she runs no problem. Please help!?!?!?!

I didn't short the wires, I have now found out that due to my own poor maintenance the valve clearances were to tight, after adjusting them to the correct spec, she fires like a new one on the button!!!!

2003 KTM EXC 250 hard to start. Heavy kicking full throttle choke closed finally starts. 4 stroke. Revs high then low and dies what do I need?

That sounds like a loose hose or bolts between the carb and the cylinder. Classic symptoms of hard starting, revving and dies. If not that, strip and clean the carb.

What is the fuel mixture for a 2002 KTM 300 EXC 2 stroke? Thanks

WIth Shell v-power and your favourite 2-stroke oil, you could go 50:1 (that's from my dealer). I have been running 50:1 since my 2002 300 EXC has been new, always use new mix for every ride, and drain whatever leftover is in the tank every two weeks.

Looking for instructions on dis\assembly of a waterpump on a 2002 KTM 400EXC and tools required?

2001 EXC have the same cooling system regardless of a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke, this technology have stayed until 2006

Here is the manual for 2006:
https://www.ktmdealer.net/uploads/models_tech_datasheets/8303F3_OM_EN.pdf

then your water pump assy should look like this

Ktm output shaft oil seal

if you are lucky there is a clip behind the front sprocket remove both then pop the seal out drain gear box oil first though. if not which i think is most probable the engine will need splitting if you are good with spanners it is quite easy being a 2 stroke .in brief remove engine remove bore and carb in one lump remove sprocket gear lever split g-box .seal up push old seal out, from outside in, fit new then reverse prosses. a good manual will help.

2009 KTM 250 exc-f excessive oil use, no apparent oil leaks or blue smoke

It is normal for these bikes to use some oil. A typical, maintained 250 4 stroke will use a pint of oil or more in one day of riding - depending on a lot of variables, of course. Oil consumption on these four strokes is quite typical.

Hi there over the ditch. EBAY rocks for most bits you lookin for. Motard wheels check out your KTM dealers oz wide as they were giving away Motard wheels with new 530 last year an some might still have stock. I am just in process of fitting Motard Kit I got from local dealer you will need to get a Digital speedo from a later model EXC as the 2000 520 has an analog an won't fit with Motard Wheels.
