Does this have a modified (Non-Stock) exhaust system? If so, It's probably the reed valves. (Large bore Kawasaki bikes are known for it) Look at this page for a few fixes:

Fuel petcock shut off valve, reserve fuel valve kawa vn2000 classic

I have not seen all the motorcycles in the world ... of those I have encountered ... ones I have owned, those owned by others, the ones I have worked on, seen in show rooms and used bike lots ... read about or seen pictures of in magazines ... ALL have had a fuel petcock. But that has only been between the '60's and today. It is possible yours could be the exception or it could have been removed by a previous owner. Please let me know what happens as this case unfolds. Thank you and thank you for your interest in

2 004 kawasaki vn2000 my netural light will not come on. and will not start when kickstand is down.

The switch module for neutral light is on rh side. Drain oil (3 drain plugs). Remove muffler pipe and rear brake master cyl. Remove chrome cover that holds dipstick. Remove next cover which will drain the coolant and has the module bolted into it. There are several large copper contacts (1 for each gear) and the neutral contact which is the smaller contact. Remove the spring loaded contactor pin and polish it with some 600 paper both on the outside and the bevel tip that rubs against the module face. Retension the spring behind the contactor pin. You will need 2 new side cover gaskets. Clean gasket surfaces with fresh razor blade. Refill oil & coolant. Probably won't need a new module unless the face is badly grooved.

When warm it squeals when accelerating,it sounds like swing arm. Kawasaki VN2000.

It's the rear pulley. Do a search on the net. Huge problem for that bike.

Sounds like a major fuelling problem. If the bike is running lean it will overheat like hell, if it is rich it will smoke like hell!
I'm guessing its carbs?

Kawasaki vn2000 not charging how do you test system

voltage from stator or alternator is measured in AC volts after it passes through the voltage regulator it is measured in DC volts.the volts at low rpms should be around 12 and go up to 14 or so when rpms are increased. not sure what proper AC volts should be (mine are aprox. 45-50)at isolated stator wires, they are not measured against ground but against one-another

How to remove side cover on vn2000 for fuse replacement?

Kind of a pain. You have to hold the nut under the battery cover screw that goes through the side cover. Otherwise the screw just spins.
