Question about 2003 Suzuki VL 800 Volusia

2 Answers

While loading my 2003 suzuki VL 800 Volusia onto the bed of a pickup truck, I took a bad step and we all lost control of the bike. It fell off the ramp and landed on the handlebar. Now the electronics do come on, but the bike will not even turn over. The bike was running at the time of the incident. Does this motorcycle have a cut-off switch or some other mechanism that would cause the starter and the start button not to communicate? Does anyone have any ideas? Any workable solution will be greatly appreciated.

Will an oiled air filter prevent engine from turning over?

Please disregard this problem; Once I got a chance to get into it and take some things apart, I tracked down the problem myself. There was discontinuity at the start switch.

Hi. Most likely, when your bike spilled the air filter loaded with oil. Check the filter. If it is oiled up replace it with a new one. J.

Hi, Norman the parts fiche shows it as a shouldered threaded bolt with a crimp nut remove the nut and tap out the bolt, for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the best tool you ever bought for your Suzuki, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one. How do i change the speedo cable on my 03 suzuki volusia? the speedo jumps around and my trip meter doesnt ork is it even the speed cable or is the magnet out

your speedo is electronic, no cables run to it. i found that out when i took the bike apart to paint it. it's possible that the comp board may be malfunctioning. may need to replace speedo on tank.

When i pull my clutch and step into first gear the bike jumps and goes back into neutral

put the bike in gear, with the engine off. Pull in the clutch and attempt to roll the bike around. Does it roll freely? If not, you may have to replace the friction disks in your clutch

This is a schematic for the VZ800. Very similar to the VL.

Battery good, bike dead

At first glance sounds like the battery is bad. The voltage you read across a battery with no load is not a good way to test. Batteries should always be load tested. Also if you still have the original battery from a 2003 bike you definitely need to replace it.
