I will assume that you have a multimeter and are familiar with its operation.
You can check the diodes in the rectifier by checking from each of the three stator terminals to the positive then the negative terminals.
I'll call the stator inputs to the rectifier 1,2,and3. I'll call the positive and negative terminals P and N.
Using the diode check on your meter, first check is with the positive meter lead on P and negative lead on 1. The meter will either read open or continuity. At this point it doesn't matter which. Now swap the meter leads, positive lead on 1 and negative lead on P. The reading should be the opposite of your previous reading.
Now repeat with 2 and 3. They should have the same readings as 1.
Now repeat the same tests with the positive meter lead on N. The results should be the inverse of the first set.
In all you will be making 12 checks.
Here is an example:
Meter Leads Result
Pos Neg
P 1 Continuity
P 2 Continuity
P 3 Continuity
1 P No Continuity
2 P No Continuity
3 P No Continuity
N 1 No Continuity
N 2 No Continuity
N 3 No Continuity
1 N Continuity
2 N Continuity
3 N Continuity
Remember your results may be reversed.
If you have not already done so, you should check your stator for sufficient AC output. When revving the engine, the lead to lead output from the stator should be in the neighborhood of 60-90 ACV.
If your stator is good and your rectifier checks out, but you are still not getting charging voltage(13-15 VDC) at the battery, the voltage regulator portion of the regulator/rectifier is bad and the unit will need to be replaced.

Either the rectifier has blown, or the battery is dead. Before taking to a dealer check all your wiring earths and battery terminals for tightness and contact. It happens.

Check your carberutor - make sure you have the proper air fuel mixture - running too lean (without enough actual gasoline) will cause the bike to run hot - but even more common than that is an ignition issue - either a bad plug, rectifier, coil etc. something not giving the proper spark or something with your cdi - best to check the plug, then power coming from coil, check rectifier, your timing could be off as well - but i've seen the lean issue and iginition electrical issue be the main causes of an engine running super hot like that.

Alternator not charging battery

ok first check the negative terminal and ensure you have a proper ground. then you have to check the stator and regulator / rectifier, you can check the stator which rarely goes bad by using a multi-meter on AC it should give you a voltage reading when cranking the bike over be careful you could get shocked now with the bike off check the regulator / rectifier by using the diode setting you can check to see if your rectifier is working use the leads and check the wires that come from the stator and the other lead on the wire that goes to the starter you will get voltage one way and the other you shouldn't so you will have to switch the leads. so if you get voltage both ways the regulator is bad or if you don't get voltage at al it is bad.

If the radio is new take it back it has a bad signal rectifier if its been working well but just started to play up have the antenna checked or replaced failing that your deck has worn out its rectifier if am or MHz am is as bad as fm then replace deck 10_3_2013_2_13_47_am.png

The ripple filters on the power supply probably blew.
Look for electrolytic capacitors connected right after the bridge rectifier.
Chances are they will be bulged at the top, leaking at the bottom, or completely missing (exploded).
Replace the filter caps in the power supply, and you should be good to go.
I suggest upping the voltage rating from the originals.
IE - if the original caps are 16V, use 25V caps of the same uF rating.
Check the bridge rectifier too, to be sure none of the diodes went bad.
If any of the diodes in the rectifier are bad, you will have to replace the diode, or the rectifier if it's a 4 post rectifier module.

Washer will not drain water or spin

Check your drain pump motor. water isnt draining properly or not at all. It could be either something stuck in the piping (drainage), or the pump is not operating.once rectified, it should work properly again.

How to test rectifier.

there are several ways to test a rectifer the quckest way to check if it is working properly is with a voltmeter first check ground resistance one lead to good known ground (battery neg.) the other to rectifer should be 1 ohm or less.Then hook meter to battery and start the bike and check and watch battery voltage should start to increase after a minute or so check at 2000 rpm again increase if it does not check stator if stator passes replace rectifier

Check the voltage rectifier not the voltage regulator but the voltage rectifier your car may be putting out AC instead of DC voltage which causes the brain and electrical to not function properly because cars run on DC and alternators make AC in the rectifier changes it to DC .

The rectifier has no effect on the ignition system if the battery is fully charged. If you have access to a test light or voltmeter, check for power (12 volts) at one of the coil side-connections with the key turned on. If no voltage at either coil connection, then power is not coming from key switch. Check plug connections at key switch--may be loose or corroded from water entry. Do headlights, horn, starter work? Key switch should have one "always hot" connection which comes from battery. Wire colors should match through each connector. Hope that helps.
