Question about 2000 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Electra Glide Ultra Classic

2000 ultra classic cruise control failure

My cruise control has stopped working. Fuse is good, light comes on, on main cruise switch but the set indicator"C" does not. I find the cable hooked up but has slack in it, it is as if the module is not pulling the cable in as it would need to, to work. Are these repairable? Can the unit be opened for service?

Hi Cckids, diagnosing cruise control issues is very complex and requires specific drop down menu diagnostics that are extremely time sensative and precise. These procedures should only be performed by a trained experienced professional. I would take your bike to your local dealer for an estimate. Good luck and have a nice day.

Check the vent in your fuel cap. If the vent is stopped up, a vacuum will build up in the tank and no fuel will flow even with a pump.

Good Luck

Blowing fuse for cruise control 2000 HD Ultra green light go out while riding?

Hi, Agustin before diagnosing your blown fuse issue check the bottom of your seat if it's metal and comes in close proximity to the positive battery post you need to take the necessary steps to ensure there is no contact (electrical tape, thick rubber insulation, hammer a dent in the seat bottom etc.) also you are going to need a wiring from your service manual a test light, an ohmmeter and plenty of extra fuses. If you turn on your ignition switch and immediately blow a fuse you have a hard/dead short and is usually easy to find. With a test light connected to the hot side of the blown fuse holder start stabbing the wire/s that leads away from the fuse holder and towards the ignition switch, you test light will illuminate validating the short. When the test light fails to illuminate you have passed the short and need to back up until the test light illuminates, then look in the immediate area for the short.
If you driving down the road for 30 minutes or 15 miles and blow a fuse you have soft/flying short and may take some time and patience to find.
If the main fuse/circuit breaker constantly blows/trips while riding you probably have a faulty battery terminal connection. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. Any other fuses that constantly keep blowing while riding are usually caused by a loose or corroded ground wire in the circuit, which means you have to check, inspect, test each and everyone with and ohm meter set on a low ohm scale 100 ohms or less . Simply touch one lead to the ground source and the other lead to the battery negative terminal, a reading of zero indicates a clean solid ground. Any number reading or infinity indicates a poor ground and needs to be repaired. Poor or weak grounds require excessive additional amperage to complete the circuit which in turn blows the small amperage fuse. Fuse location for cruise control

Since there is no throttle cable, there is no "cruise control" fuse. The fuses used are #7, 9,and 13 in the under hood fuse/relay box and #18 in the under dash fuse/relay box. The most common failure is a bad brake pedal switch. Does the cruise control main switch "on" light work when the switch is pressed? The gauge control module (instrument panel) and the PCM control the cruise control.

Check the 20A STOP FUSE and 10A METER FUSE in the joint box but also there may be no speed sensor input that signals the cruise control to engage.

2008 ultra classic brake lights stay on and cruise won't work

Hi Anonymous, this problem is usually cause by the front brake light switch being out of alignment or the button not retracting all the way keeping your brake light on in a closed circuit, depending on your model year. 1996 and earlier models the right handlebar switch housing had to be tight up against the front brake control housing in order for the front brake light switch button to be fully compressed to stop continuity. In 1997 and later models the button was alot shorter and was more of an alignment issue in the switch housing. Rear brake light switches located in the rear brake line TEE can also fail in the closed circuit condition but extremely rare, usually they fail in an open circuit condition where the brake light is not able to activate.
