Question about 1984 Honda VF 500 F

I over reved my 84 500 interceptor and now I beleive I have a problem with an exaust valve. How do I replace it?

Are you sure you think its exhaust valves because i owned an 85 and i thought i had a valve problem too! if you've been abusing the bike and going past Redline i'm afraid i have some bad news for you..ten years after i had to get rid of my interceptor, i read an article by Honda admitting that they made defective cranks for their 500 interceptors, so now i know why my bike seized up on me going 60 mph on the highway..i quickly pulled in the clutch and coasted to a stop and then had to push it two miles home. what makes you think its an exhaust valve by the way? do you have a lot of smoke coming out, because that would just mean your burning a lot of oil that is getting through worn piston rings!

E g r stands for exaust gas recirculation valve it is bolted to exaust about exaust manifold it takes hot gases from exaust and recirculates them back int air intake and basically preheats the inlet air usually when faulty engine can become erratic and engine management light will come up on dash

Yes it is an interference engine and if the belt breaks it will damage the valves.

What is a egr valve

exaust gas recycle valve opens and closes to recycle exaust vapors that do not get burnt in engine...its an emission valve that is very easy to replace and available aftermarket at any parts store...

I need to replace my thermostat but i can't figure out how to get the bolts off. i beleive i'm going to have to remove the exaust manifold to get to it. i was wondering if there is any other way to do it

This is kind of a pain, usually you can get to the top bolt ok. the bottom bolt just has to be loosened, it does not have to be completly removed. It requires the use of a small swivel socket and extension. With the proper tools, the exaust cross over doesn't need to be removed

It says battery exausted even with new batteries

I beleive your batteries are of incorrect type or you need to set the type of the battery through menu. My favorite batteries are from Wal-mart: Energizer rechargeable Ni-Mh 2450mAh, (15 min recharging time) they fit any type of camera without setting the battery type through menu. Some incorrect type of batteries often damage the CCD. Ni-Mh Energizer never damages the CCD (black screen), while regular (non-rechargeable) Energizers may damage CCD in Sony S700 or similar cameras.

Emissions vent

I have never heard of an "emissions vent" I beleive he/she is reffering to the EGR valve. The EGR valve or Exaust Gas Recirculation valve sends unspent amounts of fuel and air back into the intake manifold for further combustion. This part can become clogged overtime and can be cleaned with various products made by CRC also availiable at autozone. Taking the EGR off can be a pain sometimes and i would let the engine cool for about an hour and then spray the related bolts with liquid wrench and let them sit for a while. Then try disconnecting the valve from the exast collector and engine. Take the EGR valve and let soak in parts cleaner. ( I use acetone to soak, and carb cleaner after) Q tips and pipe cleaners come in handy here as well.
