First you want to clamp off the rubber line going to the caliper. You can put rubber hoses on needle nose vise grips and put them on the rubber hose. DO NOT put vise grips on rubber line without protection from the teeth on the hose. Second follow the hose down to where the metal meets the caliper and remove that bolt going through the line into the caliper, DO NOT LOSE BOLT. notice the copper washers? make sure you put the new ones in the same way. next remove the two bolts going through the caliper into the fork. check the rotor over very good for blue spots, if you find some, it wouldnt be a bad idea to replace the rotor as well. Now to install the new caliper put your new pads in the caliper. put the caliper back over the rotor and reconnect caliper to fork. remmeber the copper washers? put one between the caliper and brake line, and one between the brakeline and the bolt head. make sure not to over tighten the bolt into the caliper. now bleed the brakes, and keep checking the fluid level while doing so. most likely its dot 4 brake fluid, but the cover on the resevoir will tell you. or refer to your owners manual to make 100% sure.IF I remember right, the right caliper is independent from the rear brake. but dont hold me to that :) any questions shoot me an email and ill go in more thurough.

I just bought a 1998 Honda Shadow 1100. The

I doubt the bike has 100k on it, thats alot of riding! If it runs and looks good just figure it is a typo and ride it. As far as the oil filter that bike uses a spin on filter, it is painted black, screws on the front of the engine just above the oil pan just to the right of center.

On honda shadow front axel, is there a particular way of placing the axil itself?

yes, look at exploded view of parts, speed cable atachment, spacer and axle location and orientation. brake disc and caliper alignment depend on these.

I had a clip fall out while I remover front pads and don't know where it goes on a 2003 honda saber 1100

HI
It either clips onto the disc pad itself or through a hole in each pad.
Is it a wire clip or moulded flat clip.
If wire then it goes between the disc pads(Anti-rattle clip). If moulded fits on either the disc caliper or the disc pad.

2006 HONDA SHADOW SABRE - front brake is making a slight grinding sound anytime the bike leans left. No problems going straight or leaning right. Thoughts?

  • Wheel bearings going bad
  • Axle and or bearings need grease
  • Loose nut on the axle
  • Caliper not bolted on tight
  • Rotor mounting bolts not tight
Can I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?
