SOURCE: I have a 1975 Bullet 350 standard, the AMP meter

Check the wires coming out of the armature , that would be the problem. 99% of time it is the problem with those wires. What happens is, in old models there are three wires coming out of the armature, u must check if those wires are not short from inside (Armature Coil). Check with the Multimeter and if thats the prob than u'll have to cahnge the armature...

I cannot charge the battery using the ac adapter or USB port on my computer even the charge lamp does not light up can you please help

If a lithium battery is too deeply discharged or the cells matching become unbalanced from many deep discharges, then it can be permanently damaged. The chargers often have over discharge detection circuits, which prevent you from recharging the battery under these circumstances. This is because the battery when overdischarged, could vent or overheat etc. if recharged.
Overdischarge can happen if you don't recharge the camera after using it and then leave it in the closet for a long time before trying to recharge.
This often happens with laptops if you don't remove the battery when storing it for months. The laptop uses a small amount of current even when switched off and this causes the over discharge.
Best bet is to try and charge a new battery, to see that the charger is ok.

Nickel-Cadmium
This type of battery must be fully discharged and then fully recharged every few weeks. If you don't do this, it will quickly lose battery life due to what is known as the 'memory effect'. The memory effect means if you don't follow the above procedure, your battery will only charge up to the percentage of the last charge.

For instance, if you discharge it to 30 per cent, it will only charge up the remaining 70 per cent. Do this repeatedly, and the 30 per cent will become unusable, giving you an effective 70 per cent charge even though the indicator will still show a 100 per cent charge each time you charge it.

Nickel Metal Hydride
Ni-MH batteries are similar to Ni-Cd batteries, although they are less susceptible to the memory effect. They also have a higher capacity.

Lithium Ion
These are the latest type of batteries, and have no real problems as far as the memory effect is concerned. The problem with these is that they lose their effectiveness if overcharged or left for a long time with a full charge. Always discharge these batteries if you're going to be storing them away.

How to charge your laptop battery properly? During the the process of notebook...

How to charge your laptop battery properly? solarroll-laptop-solar-charger.jpg During the the process of notebook using, we need no to deliberately charge the laptop battery to 100% state or fully discharged laptop battery to automatic shutdown protecting. The correct way is that charge the battery in 20% state and stop charging in 98% . If the machine has the power calibration procedure, when the battery standard-by time significantly reduced. Then calibrate the battery in time to active the protection circuit performance.
For early notebook batteries (Ni-MH Ni-MH or Ni-Cd Ni-Cd), really need to fully charge and discharge in order to maintain good battery capacity. But for the lithium battery is not necessary even it may damage the battery.
In fact the lithium batteries has a little memory effect. The lithium battery materials is very sensitive to the conditions as temperature, the use of frequency and so on. The battery will be aging after used for some period time (standby time reduced). The natural wear and tear is an important reason, and inadequate maintenance is another important reason.
A well-designed lithium batteries have a very good protection circuit to prevent excessive charge and discharge. As over-charging and discharging of the Sony VGP-BPS8 battery will be the rapid reduction activity. Under the protection of protection circuit, the user fully charge and discharge the battery several times, in fact, impossible to achieve had "full" level.
Sometimes WINDOWS show that battery capacity is 20% or more, you can use 30 minutes. But after used 10 minutes or less the machine suddenly automatically shut down. The reason is that the battery has been aging, the battery protection circuit can not monitors the battery real capacity. In the normal battery depletion, the protection circuit original parameters have been unable to properly reflect the actual situation of the battery
So power calibration procedure is to correct the benchmark protection circuit parameters to accurately reflect the actual capacity . This correction process will often take two or three complete charge and discharge. As previously mentioned, fully charge and discharge will reduce the battery activity. It is not frequently used, usually once a month.

all the jump starts i have seen have a deep cycle battery that is sealed - i would not run something like an air compressor motor with low voltage - it can be discharged almost flat , but do not leave it long before charging back up - low voltage =high amps on motors

Flat battery

There are 2 possible causes here. Either there is a voltage drain from something on the bike or the battery is discharging on it\'s own accord. If it is a wet battery (ie non gel type) often when it is new and first acid filled some people make the mistake of quick charging them straight after filling. What then happens is the battery only gets a surface charge, so it will charge up to ie; 12.8 volts fully charged but have no cranking amps. Secret is to fill the new battery with acid then let it sit for an hour to get full penetration of the plates then slow charge it for 4 to 5 hours to get good battery performance and life.

Laptop works great on AC input, Battery charges and discharges per the indicators but will not power up on DC only. What needs replacing?

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Unfortunately, bike batteries seem to **** out from one season to the next due to material build-up (from vibration) in the bottom of the battery case which causes the cells to discharge even when recharged through the storage period. The meter on your charger (unplugged) is reading battery voltage, but if you turn on the headlight, the voltage would show very low. Try charging the battery at 2 to 4 amps rate overnight (about 6 hours) and see if the battery recovers. If it fails rapidly, get a new battery. Hope this helps!

How do i discharge a new camera battery sanyo vpc-t1284

hi anna ... you probably dont want to do that (discharge the battery) .. depending on the battery chemistry, you cant gain anything and can damage the battery ... for long term storage, lithium batteries like about 70% charge and dont like any complete discharge .. in fact better chargers will refuse to charge the Li battery once the cell voltage goes below a threshold .. when your lithium battery shows dead it is actually still higher than that minimum voltage.. once the cell is below that critical value then conductive bridges start to form inside the battery, that can cause battery overheating and possible explosion during subsequent charging .. so lithium batteries want to stay at least partially charged .. ... NiMH batteries can be fully discharged but that doesnt gain you anything .. they have no "memory effect" .. and deap cycling doesnt improve performance .. normal use cycling of a new battery may increase its capacity slightly as it "breaks in" but deap discharge is not needed or recommended .. for long term storage they want to be in an initial state of fully charged .... in NiCd there is thought to be a "memory effect" which is actually an overcharging effect ... those cells can sometimes benifit from a few deap cycles (conditioning) to erase the effects of over charging, but NiMH and lithium have mostly replaced NiCd in anything less than several years old (since Cd is toxic) .. ... there is only one case where lithium batteries are purposly discharged ... thats on some laptops or other equipment that use relitively large batteries ... but thats not for the battery its to reset the "power remaining meter" in the laptop .. that is a calculated value that tries to measure discharge time vs charge time to guess at what state the battery is in .. it can eventually become inaccurate due to accumulated errors .. discharging then charging the battery will reset that to a new starting point .. so purposly discharging LiON and NiMH batteries is not a good idea and doesn't .improve anything ... there are a lot of people that think it does but thats just habit left over from the NiCd days ... even some manufacturers of electronic stuff still believe that, but you can easily look at the battery manufacturers site to get their view .. you will find that the age old custom/habit of battery cycling is wrong unless you are still using the old NiCd cells ....
