80w-90 hypoid gear oil GL5, I recommend synthetic, it will decrease friction, increase gear life, and run cooler over the long miles.

What makes my 2009 santa fe gear shift sorta stiff to move


Hi
This condition is usually caused by the transmission gear shift tower
seizing up in the inhibitor switch. To correct this, the gear shifter cable will have to be taken off at the transmission end which is fasened to the shift tower. Then remove the inhibitor/range switch and unseize the shift tower, working it back and forth with antiseize lub. Once the tower is cleaned, lubbed and has free movement, install a new range switch and reinstall shift cable if it is okay. Note: reinstall range switch in the same position as the old part so the start settings for park and neutral are good.

170 ft.lbs is the minimum; be aware that this differential uses a crush sleeve to set the backlash and the pinion torque is what crushes the crush sleeve. If you don't set the backlash correctly you can grind up your differential gears.

I've got a 1986 Chevrolet k10 4x4 truck custom deluxe an when I shift into 4wd an start going, it makes a sound as if it's Binding up.. But still works as it would in 4wd.. Idk if it's the tcase or front...


Check your positive track rear end and also check your transfer case fluid. Do you have electronic or manual transfer case and your wheel hubs are the manual of automatic? I would check the hubs to make sure they are locking in completely and not slipping. The old transfer cases were tough but if the bearings are old or run low in lub or the wrong lub in the case it can cause you issue.

My 2002 dodge 1500 has 392 rear end gears iwhant 353 gears what do ido


you can remove the axles and the drive shaft then open the differential to remove the carrier gear assembly(ring gear,side gears)then remove the pinion gear.replace these with the new gear set and get the clearance specs for the pinion depth and carrier gear clearance and adjust until within specs.you can either pickup new gear sets or one from the wreckers with the shims to start with.you will need a backlash dial gage to know if the backlash clearance is within specs as well as marking ink to know if the gear mating surface is riding in the proper area of contact.

If it is the front end, it may be the shocks or the supports. You should lube all your wheel bearings, joints, and tie rods to see if that helps.

The gear shift, (on the steering column) has become stiff. It still works but is stiff.


The gear change at the end out side the fire wall goes back to a x shaft and on to the side of the auto box, so take off the Gear box end and then try it,If still stiff then its due to lack of lub (oil) so lub with engine oil on all bushes and under the Steering wheel, play with it till free an easy.
Reconnect and test run.
IF its free then the problem is in the Auto-Gearbox and thats a lot more
of a problem and you either have to get it done be the Auto box shop or try it your self,and thats a shaft that goes into the valve body housing
in the pan and thats a big job,not the sort of thing you want to try
