Question about Harley Davidson FXST Softail Standard Motorcycles

Frist of all the battary want take a charge.but i have already replaced the stator and reckifire u can take a50 amp jump start battary charger and hook to it and all it will do is click but if u put a charged batt. in it then it will push off and run.

Your battery has an internal short. All the juice from the charger just goes to ground. A new battery is needed.

I have a sterling diamond scooter. How can i use jump start to charge the battery? Is there any emergency portable charger to carry if i get stuck outside and there is no car or power.

It might be easier to carry a spare battery. I am not familiar with your unit. I do not understand how a jump start would work without an external power source.

Lights & radio work but will not start.

frist make sure you battery is ok .then check by try to start if there is click sound comes . replace battary . if no click .means ignition S.W have problem need to replace . for emargancy try to start from selnoid starter connected with + battarry after you s.w on the ingnition and gear on (N or P)
if start means you shold replace ignition s.w ( a white or black coler at back of main ignition s.w can replace with out lose prog.and it;s cheaper

Hi, Ytruelove before testing any electrical component in the Charging System Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test because your battery may have 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amps causing the battery to be faulty and must be replaced, especially "AGM" batteries.
1. Battery Test: The battery needs to be a fully charged and load tested to ensure proper readings, connections need to be clean and tight. If you are not working with a fully charged and functional battery, all other voltage tests will be incorrect. Standing battery Voltage should be 12.5-13.2 DCV.
2. Charging System Voltage Test: Start motorcycle, measure DC volts across the battery terminals you should have a reading of approximately 13.2-15 DC Volts.
3. Check Connections/Wires: Inspect the regulator/stator plug, and check the battery terminals for connection/corrosion. If everything seems to be in order, move on to number 4 below to determine if there's a failed component.
4. Stator Checks/Rotor Check: Each of the following tests isolates the Stator & Rotor. If AC Output test Fails and Resistance Check, and Stator IB Test Pass then Rotor is at fault (Pull Primary covers and inspect rotor for damage).
5. AC Output Check:
Unplug the regulator plug from the stator
Start motorcycle and change Voltmeter to AC volts.
Probe both stator wires with your meter lead.
The motorcycle should be putting out approximately 18-20 ACV per 1,000 rpm. Reading will vary depending on system, check service manual specification
Generic Specs:
22 amp system produces about 19-26 VAC per 1,000 rpm
32 amp system produces about 16-20 VAC per 1,000 rpm
45 amp system produces about 19-26 VAC per 1,000 rpm
Stator Resistance Check:
Switch your multimeter to Ohm x 1 scale.
Probe each stator wires with meter leads and check resistance on the meter.
Resistance should be in the range of 0.1-0.5 Ohms. Reading will vary depending on system, check service manual for specification
Generic Specs:
22 amp system produces about 0.2 to 0.4 ohms
32 amp system produces about 0.1 to 0.2 ohms
45 amp system produces about 0.1 to 0.2 ohms
Stator IB test or Ground Check:
Switch your multimeter to Ohm x 1 scale.
Probe each stator wire with your positive lead on the multimeter and the negative to ground.
There should be no continuity to ground on either wire.
If there is continuity to ground your stator is shorted to ground.
5. Regulator Test: Each of the following tests isolates the regulator only, so if any of these tests fail, the regulator is at fault.
Identifying Wires:
Battery Charge Lead- Wire going from regulator to battery positive.
AC output leads- Wires coming from the Stator to the regulator.
Ground- Wire from Regulator to ground or regulator may be grounded via the physical bolting to chassis.
Regulator Ground Test: Ensure the regulator body is grounded or grounding wire is fastened tightly to a good ground (you should verify this by checking continuity from regulator body to chassis ground).
Fwd/Reverse Bias Test/Diode Test: This check is testing the Diode function to ensure it is regulating the AC current for the stator into DC Current.
Switch multimeter to Diode Scale.
Place your Multimeter positive lead on each AC output wire.
Place your multimeter negative lead on the battery Charge wire.
The meter should read voltage typically around .5 volts.
Next, switch your multimeter leads putting the negative lead on the AC output wires and the Positive lead on the Battery Charge Wire.
The reading should be Infinite.
With your meter on the same setting, place your multimeter positive lead on the regulator ground wire or to the regulator directly, and then place your meter negative lead on the AC output leads.
The meter should read voltage typically around .5 volts.
Next, switch your multimeter leads putting the negative lead on the regulator ground and the Positive lead on the AC output wires.
The reading should be Infinite.
Note: Below is a table to show the readings:

I installed a shark audio amplifier on my bike. battery died.I tried a small trickle charger to recharge batt but somehow killed the charger.I disconnected shark amplifier and led lights, then bought...

it sounds like your charging system is out. use your volt meter check the battery charge before you start the bike, it should read about 12 volt, start your bike now, check you meter you should be running about 13.5 volts. rev your bike watch your meter it should spike around 14.5 if your meter jumps up over 15 your reg/rec is not working right, if it drops when you rev the bike you stator is not working. Its always best to replace them as a pair as they work as a pair and bad old part can kill a nice new pricey part if you follow what im saying. the stator is the coil winding that makes a/c power after its made it goes to regulator/ rectifier it's job is take that a/c power and make it d/c (you can only make a/c power and store d/c power) it also regulates the volts around 13.5. see what you got and let me know

Hi! I havent run my Yamaha R6 in a while and now it wont turn on. I think the battery is low. What should I do?

The frist step is to open the battery and be sure it has enough water, disconnect the negative cable, then charge the battery fully, at a slow rate. This may take a full day or longer with a 10 amp charger. Then re connect the cable and try again.

I recommend disconnecting the negative cable if you are not gioing to use the unit for longer than a couple of days.

Hello i replace my small ups 650VA battary with a car battary,when i charge the car battary with an external charger does this affect my ups if it remain connected with the battary

Should not be a problem - just make sure the charger is a good one, and avoid over-charging. Once the battery is fully charged, the UPS should maintain it properly. Also, check the water level once a month - dry cells will kill the battery.

My toshiba wont always charge properly, itll say "plugged in but not charging" and then i plug out the cord and then plug it back in and it will charge for a few secs then stop. thanks

Try checking the power management settings in control panel.
& if there all set correctly, Then take the battery out & plug in the charger.It should run on it's own.
If it doesn't the chargers gone, but if it does run then put the battery back in whilst it's still on. If still no joy then wiggle & bend the cable from top to bottom & all the joints to check for breaks or bad connections, But leave the laptop switched on so that you can hear it bleep every time you hit a fault.

'01 929 Erion Edition charging issues can't start

start saving some $$$$$$ as i think the charging system is in need of repair or replacement!

Bike starts with jump leads on and runs take jump leads of bike cuts out

battary. charge up battary then refit. if you have same problem again you need a new one.
