Question about 1986 Honda VT 500 C Shadow
I have an 86 Honda shadow 500 that runs near the point of overheating while riding at highway speed. Have checked radiator fluid and it is full. Tried replacing thermostat, did not solve. Removed thermostat, Still run near the red. Checked oil lines for possibly being stopped up. Nothing I have tried has solved the problem. Any suggestions on what to look for?
A lot of shadows run high on the gauge. I would be concerned if the fan never turned on when in the red /or if the fan ran constantly. You may just have a gauge that reads really high. I ride a Goldwing and totally ignore my gas gauge(it reads empty for half a tank)and my temp gauge many times does not come on at all. My fan does work, but it never kicks in, therefore i am not overheating. Both items are annoying but not worth fixing since they only back up other systems and are mostly there for looks. There are some antifreeze modifiers like "ICE" that are used in racing where antifreeze is not allowed. One of these may help lower a potentially high temperature. But may not be necessary.
