Getting info aabout the bike

I have a 1999 1200 Sporster XL w/ Screaming Eagle version. It has 4 spark plugs. Is this a rare version. It looks and runs like the day it was made ( 7000) miles on it. I want to sell it and Im wondering what I should ask for it here in Ohio.

No your bike is not rare as you can find wiring diagrams for it in a Chilton's manual. What it is, is a "special edition" which may or may not make it worth more. Odds are that it is worth a bit more than a "standard" edition Sporty. Regrettably, the Sportsters don't seem to retain their resale value as well as the Big Twins.

To get a realistic value of your bike, you need to get someone to tell you what the "Black Book" average resale value of your bike is. You can get this information from either a motorcycle shop or a financial institution like a bank or something. Make sure you are specific about what your bike is when talking to them. There are LOTS of 'special editions' and you want to get the quote on the correct one.

Good Luck
Steve

No spark ignition module 1999 Classic Sporster

Hi Marie6679, the CKP sensor needs compression to send correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Battery voltage below 8.7 volts, loose or broken battery cables especially ground cable to frame.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, MAP or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Security alarm failing to disarm.

HELP!!! I am trying to hookup a battery tender to my 2007 Sporster XL 1200 and can't figure it out!! The positive terminal is way underneath the frame of the bike. This is my first bike and I am...

The battery should be under your seat ... remove your seat, find your battery ... make your connections. Positive will be indicated by the word POS or a + and it is probably red. Also, you can read 12 volts between the Positive terminal and any bare point on the bike (ground) like a bolt head.

This help?

I want to remove the baffels from stock 06 Sportster mufflers

not a good idea unless you upgrade the air cleaner to a high flow or screaming eagle...bike is tuned to run with restricted pipes..if you change one you need to change the other..with the 06 you could also need a download or fuel management system..

Wifes harley 2007 1200L sporster, started ran about 4 miles turned bike off. went to start back started but wounld not run acted like it jump timing, was spitting and popping, now starter starter wont spin...

Take the spark plugs out of the engine and see if the engine turns over then. If it does but the engine will not turn over with the plugs in it, have the battery checked. Never assume a battery is good because it's not very old.

If the engine will not turn over with the spark plugs out, it sounds like may have serious problems. In this case, I'd consult a professional mechanic.

You can repost if you find out more information for us to work from. Good Luck

No spark on my Harley

How are you checking your spark? On the newer computer controlled engines, there is a "compression sensor". If you take the plugs out and try to check for spark like we used to do, you won't get a spark. Put your plugs back in and then use a set of test plugs to check your spark.

If you're still not getting a spark, check for voltage at the primary side of the coil.

Try replacing your plugs with Autolite's. make sure to get the right size for your bike. See if that makes a difference.
