Question about 1990 Yamaha FZR 600

2 Answers

I have a 97 FZR 600 and recently it started stalling before i come to a stop, and occasionally the RPM's bounce around like it's stalling while riding. It almost seems like it's out of gas but that's not it... i'm thinking maybe a fuel filter, but any ideas?

Hi! Two things to look at and can resolve the problem. Fuel filter may be clogged of dirt and rust from the tank which blocks the fuel flow that can cause stalling. You may have fuel flooding too, if you havent replaced the spark plug lately then I guess now is the good time. New spark plugs can result to better fuel burning and prevents fuel flooding. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Carburetor problem definitely (if not fuel injected).
I had a 1985 Honda Interceptor that had to be ridden a while at the beginning of the season before the RPMs would stabilize.

I had to adjust the carburetor mixture and speed until it was
within specs, but really all I had to do was to ride it until the carbs
were back to normal.

I think gas filter could be changed, as regular maintenance, but
the problem is within the carburetor jets being clogged or the float
not being free enough to move or pivot and close off and let fuel into the float bowl so the proper amount of gasoline is metered to the engine.

Hope that helps.

Based on your latest description, you say that you have ridden it most of the summer until someone rode with you on the back.

I don't think this caused the problem, either.

Well you could adjust the carburetor mixture until the idle is stable and you get max. efficiency and performance out of the engine.

It's just a turn of the screw.

Did you try adjusting the idle speed and idle mixture screws?

If it's fuel-injected, you may need to have the injectors cleaned, and also, any air filters should be changed at the same time along with gas filter/s. If it's carbureted, the same as above, but have someone clean the carburetor completely. Make sure all air hoses are attached correctly, securely and NOT broken. If broken, replace them.

Definitely carb problems. Dieaphrams need to be checked and the carbs need to be synced.

If you have installed the Dynojet kit's carburetor needles take them off and use the stock ones.
Dynojet's needles are for track use only and the don't work properly under 4000rpm.
