It is under the engine near the oil filter. You need an 8mm hex key to remove it and you should replace the crush washer and torque it to 30Nm to prevent leaks. NOTE: there is also a drain plug for the transmission which is located on the trans. behind the engine. Don't confuse the two.

You will need a special oil filter wrench to remove and replace the oil filter.

Good Luck!

The fact that the neutral light does not show up on the dash may indicate that the gear position indicator is not calibrated correctly. Does the bike start with the clutch pulled in?

Gearbox - suddenly gears will not shift down and are very stiff - is this a flawed design or just a repair issue or adjustment one?

Sounds like your selector arm is binding on the shaft. Has the oil been replaced recently? If not, it is most likely contaminated with water, thus causing the selector arm to bind.

What type of oil should i use for my engine/gear oil / final drive for my rt 1200 08

First, you did read your owners manual right? The manual lists the BMW approved oils for your bike. It is also important to use the correct quantity of oil in the engine, this is listed in the manual too.

I use Castrol Syntec 20-50 for the engine and synthetic gear oil (90 weight) for the trans and final drive.

How many spark plugs are there, 2 or 4? when they say twin spark, do they mean 4 plugs or 2 of which are twin spark

On the 1200 RT Twin Spark, it means 2 plugs per cylinder. In other words 4 plugs total.
The term is often somewhat abused whereas "wasted spark" (plug firing on every stroke) is also referred to as twin spark. BMW uses this setup as well to save on components.

Where is GPS power connection on 2007 BMW R1200 RT? I have mount for Garmin Zumo 550. I understand there is a power connector somewhere near the ignition switch, but I can't locate it..

Hi, Dmercier for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Changing the final drive oil on a 2006 r 1200 gs

I use a turkey baster and about six inches of fuel line. Put the fuel line into the final drive, then squeeze the bulb of the turkey baster and then put then protruding end of the hose against the end of the baster and **** the oil out of there. The final drive only holds a pint or so. My old K bike had an allen head drain plug, I guess the newer final drives have been "upgraded".
