Hello,

I see that your question hasn't been answered in six months. I was doing a search on users that are having problems with Gold Wings and came across your questions. The following information should be helpful.

The Fuel Pressure Regulator is located is attached to the rear end of the right-hand fuel delivery pipe.

You can locate the fuel filter by doing the following:

  1. Remove the seat by lifting it straight up and away from the frame. Locate the fuel lines where they go into the gas tank. Follow the fuel lines until they go into the filter. The filter will be located between the fuel pump and the gas tank.
  2. Unbolt the filter from the mounting bracket with a socket and a ratchet. Pull the filter away from where it is mounted to the bracket to allow better access to the fuel lines.
  3. Loosen the hose clamps that hold the fuel filter on with a screwdriver. Pull the fuel lines off of the fuel filter. If the fuel lines are held on with a quick connect fitting, lift the tab on the fitting with a flat head screwdriver and pull the fuel lines off of the filter.
  4. Install the new filter in the same orientation as the old one. Ensure that the arrow on the filter is pointing towards the fuel pump.
  5. Slide the fuel lines onto the new fuel filter. Tighten the hose clamps with a Phillips screwdriver or slide them on until they clip into place if they are the quick connect style.
Bolt the fuel filter back to the bracket that holds it in place, ensuring that it is securely fastened. Turn the ignition on and crank the engine to make sure that there are no fuel leaks. Reinstall the seat.

If you find the information in this post to be useful, please vote.

Best Regards,

Oz

The fuel filter should be located under the the left-hand side cover and can be removed easily.

    1) Remove the left-hand side cover
    2) Disconnect the battery negative lead
    3) Turn the fuel shutoff valve to the OFF position
    4) Loosen the clamping screw and remove the fuel inlet line from the fuel pump
    5) Plug the end of the fuel line with a golf tee to prevent the entry of trash
    6) Remove the nut holding the fuel filter bracket to the fuel tank
    7) Pull the fuel filter and the loose fuel line just removed out of the left-hand side of the frame
    8) Remove the bracket from the fuel filter
    9) Loosen the clamping screws and remove both fuel lines from the fuel filter
    10) Position the fuel filter with the fuel direction arrow pointing toward the fuel pump and reinstall the fuel lines onto the new fuel filter.
    11) Install by reversing the above steps.

NOTE: start the bike and check for leaks.

I apologize for the 1st lengthly route of removal. I believe that I misread the year model. The seat only has to come off if the fuel pump needs replacing.

    Regards,

    Oz

1986 goldwing sei fuel system light stays on

Fuel filter dirty? This could be a problem the '85 LTD and the '86 SEI. The fuel filter for those machines are different than the rest. They are for the pressurized fuel system and are a bit expensive. Don't know if mother Honda still has them.

check the fuel filter it sounds like it's pluged and causing too much back presure this is causing an over load in the fuel pump causing it to stop working or to presure lock

Engine miss at 45-55mph, no accleration with throttle response,

Anytime a bike sits for that long you stand a chance of fuel system problems. It sounds like you may need to "boil out" the carburetors and of course resynchronize them with vacuum gauges when you put it back together. You can also use a mercury manometer for synching the carbs. My guess is you have varnish still in the float bowls that is causing erratic running and perhaps the vacuum operated slides are not working correctly.
